I think Roglic in Tour 2022 was the most influential rider ever given the seriousness of his injuries and the work he has done for Jonas. Basically, he contributed a *** ton of value, despite his very serious injuries suffered in the same race!

But he wasn't needed and he already contributed massively.
It was not up to Roglic to help Vingegaard (well, I doubt he could do much anyway on a first place), it was up to Vingegaard to be able to stay with Pogacar. And if he wasn't able to do so, Roglic couldn't do anything to help.

Given the circumstances it's perfectly normal that Roglic (or any other rider of his level honestly) DNF's in order to go to the Vuelta.

Rogla could DNF earlier, but since they knew he couldn't continue much longer. He was the perfect bait for Pogi, who didn't know how badly injured Rogla really was.

At first, he could disguise his struggles in uphill sprints, but without explosiveness and basically just surviving (a bit like in this year's Giro before his withdrawal, by the way). Then came the single-climb stage to La Planche, and he is so good in those efforts that he seemed recovered, but surely at 100% he could have won there in 2022 or being super close (he's still capable of third place in 2025 in those stages, far from his best). Later came the sacrifice after serving as bait, and right after that, he could make strong but short pulls in favor of Jonas on stages like the one to Alpe, but even before abandoning he was already starting to get dropped from groups of more than 50 riders at the start in the bearkaway fights.

And where did he say that? I haven't read that anywhere, and even if he did say that, I completely agree with it. If he can still win other races, I don't know why he would submit to others who don't stand a chance against Jonas and Pogi anyway. Better to focus on himself and try to win Vuelta.

Tbh, him not riding for himself won them (Visma) the Tour. I think that's good enough for one career if you are good enough to win GTs yourself

When he's in form and healthy he rides for himself of course, what else. You can't expect anything else from a leader. But when he is not in form, he showed multiple times he's also a team player. And if you can't or don't want to see that, it's not my problem, bye.

Haven't seen that. Also I think he could've done TDF + Vuelta, using TDF as a build up and riding for stages and helping Lipo/Evenepoel. He doesn't want to do that because he only rides for himself.

He's also been dominating youth and junior classes in Scandinavia and has won time trials against much older riders, including against Kristian Haugetun who was one of the top first-year juniors in the world in 2025. So he seems to have some potential.
