Normally, he shouldn't attack. But save as much strength as possible.
I had the impression Evenepoel was rather good. Good enough to survive. But he was the only one of the big guys to be quite far in the thinned out peloton.
I'm not sure he could have followed if one or more favorites had been in attack.

Such a first stage, on a fairly difficult course and in the heat, is/was tricky for many riders. A lot of good riders, even potential top 15 riders were dropped. Ayuso would have been dropped if Pogacar had not slowed down his team. If it was only one less good day from UAE, then the Tour will start today. I certainly expect an attack from Pogacar today in the last steep climb.

Evenepoel doubts he’ll attack himself and will mostly focus on trying to follow today. If there’s a small group at the finish he’ll obviously sprint for victory.

I know Remco is being conservative and getting to know the Tour and easying himself into the race , etc, etc

But today is his terrain pity if he didnt go off the front at the first ascent of San Luca ...testing yourself isn't just about being conservative

I don’t think that MVDP couldn’t come back, he just didn’t because it doesn’t fit in his plan for the Olympic Games. Just like when he last year was training intervals in the bus.
He blew himself up and wasn't able to follow.

I had impression he was too far behind in the last climb, maybe he cooked his legs already to gain positions. Btw galiber will tell more about his chances to win the tour of humans....

I think the long steady Galibier suits thin Remco more than today, he looked very comfortable on the climb, good cadence and form, he just doesn't have the snap of the two up front.

Probably yes, he's not as explosive as Pogacar on a climb like San Luca. If his performance on Galibier is strong enough he can even be the race leader after the first TT.

Lets get this man in yellow after the ITT. Fatco, the best rouleur in the world, will demolish them on stage 7!

Where is Logic anyways? I need him to spin this in a negative way and talk about how he's obviously so good downhill because he's 3 kgs overweight.

RemGOAT already outsprinting Pogacar, this tour is a wrap. Furthermore he showed that he's the strongest on a flat course and the Tour is mostly flat. This race is over.
Watch out man, you wrote on the first page of this thread:
If he wins even one tour I'll eat five raw onions in a row, other than that....great talent hope he makes it big time!

Don't really see him attacking. Seems like his best plan is to stay up front, stay attentive, follow attacks, and if successful in all that, try and win a sprint. I think if he can stay in touch through the first two weeks and save as much energy as possible, he'll be in the best position to try and hang in the high mountains. He'll try and win the first TT.
Today's finish was ideal. Tadej's attack in that tight zone made it difficult for anyone to immediately follow but Remco powered through. All of those guys were descending like they'd never crashed in their lives!

Interesting to see what kind of performance the Big Four hits out in the first time trial. I guess game is quite even in that discipline now and Rogla too may have something if he yanks out something crazy like OG tt was.

That was a great job by Evenepoel clawing the top 2 back and putting time into everyone else bar Carapaz. Hopefully he’s in some good shape.
He looked really good today, and smart not to wait around. I’m hoping he’ll be a factor all race, but stage 4 should be a much stiffer test.

Exactly. He was perfectly positioned the first time up San Luca, but the second time something must have happened because he was 35-40 places back on the start of the climb. Had to dig deep to Get to the front and pretty soon after Poga attacked. The team most learn from this mistake. Very good TT the last 10km from Remco though😃
