Why?
Head winds usually tends to pull out the initiative of attacks.
Cross winds, on the contrary...
But seems unlikable with present weather forecasts.
(sry was sleepy there, just realized post was old, however the considerations can be used on a general term).

my post was before and about the ITT.

headwind helps remco create bigger gaps -- since he is the aero-bullet.

Well, what you don't realize is that almost nobody would have chased. Of course not UAE and VLAB. Not Landa, Not Roglic and his teammates because they were cooked. Maybe INEOS for a while. But after a while, not being helped by other teams, they would have stopped their efforts. Also, INEOS didn't make impression. So, even not riding full gaz in the final, Pogacar, Evenepoel and Vingegaard would have kept 1 to 2 minutes at the finish.
At that point in the race, vinegaard has a team with him, whereas remco does not. Of course Remco would rather it be mano a mano a mano, especially on rolling terrain, but only an idiot would give up their advantage. What would stop Pog or Remco from attacking at some point before the finish? You must think Ving is pretty dimwitted.

Not every time. If the TT of last year had 265km instead of 22 km, Pogacar was going to see Vingegaard on his back.

He also looks behind to see if Pogacar is fine because sometimes "he's gone".

265 km is too long for Vingemort as it's been proven that he lacks endurance for 200+ km stages/races.
As for the last sentence, when Pogi was gone Vingo was looking back indeed, confused. He seemingly wanted to wait for his friend but Grischa didn't allow it.

Regarding Evenepoel's comments...

What he said could certainly have been taken as insulting...which is in the ear of the beholder. Maybe Vingo was insulted, maybe not. Whatever the case, in the US we'd call those comments "bulletin board material", as in "I'm going to post this on the team bulletin board, so that you can all read them every time you walk in here for the next several days". If I'm Vingo, I'm thinking, "We'll see who has balls when I'm dropping your ass on Plateau de Beille". Whether he does or not, you get the point.

Comments like this have the tendency to fire up the opposition, which makes them...dumb.

What we also saw wasn't "nuance" as many have posited here, what we saw was a guy who realized what he said was dumb (progress!) and immediately "walked back the comments" in real time. So he's learning...a bit. But his instinct is self-centered, he sees the race through his lens. He then realized that Vingo had perfectly good reasons for not racing with them, he doesn't care whatsoever about the podium, he's not worried about Roglič, etc. He's maturing in that he sees when he's being stupid and tries to correct it. But he's not there yet.

I like Remco. I don't particularly like Vingo, he's boring. But he's also the 2-time defending Tour champion and Remco hasn't done jack squat in the Tour so far, and he should show more respect. Which he immediately realized.

I don't mind controversy, but I do mind dumb. And if you're rooting for Remco, the comment was dumb.
At the least he should learn to not make provocative comments before the rest day, lest the words get repeated (and distorted) in press and social mefia ;)

Honestly, I've been wondering for a while of Pogi's "friend of all riders" persona is at least partially a calculated act 😂
The way Remco has throwned himself to Pogacar this Tour is one of the best parts. Is it me who is just ignorant but have they raced few races together and this is new only to me or? The mutual respect Pog have for Evenpoel is not hard to see and they both are just cut from the same claw in the way they races. Insticts, panache and raw power and pure talent, its art.

I could be wrong but I read big respect from Remco to Pogi, but not sure I'm seeing it the other way 'round. Which is fine, Pogi is the far more accomplished rider (which is saying something!), but interesting that you're seeing it as mutual. I dunno. I've been a bit worried that Remco has his head a bit too far up Pogi's arse.

Glad to see they seem to get along. Agree they do race the same way, which is a HUGE part of why I like them both.

It goes in both directions. Pogacar said during his interview he said he was more afraid from Evenepoel during the gravel stage compared to Vingegaard, and he takes his hat off on how he's riding his first TDF. "It's nice to race against him. He's strong, rides aggressive and it's nice to see him go all out when he can."

Danish media defensive about criticism toward Vingegaard? Well have i ever!
Regarding the junior racing in the pro peloton, what rock did she crawl under of? Vingegaard himself has done his fair share of long solo attacks and aggressive racing the past few years which we did not witness in the past decades.
Your completely missing her point, it’s not the attack from far out, it’s that he expected Jonas to race with his head under his arm and forget about tactics.

The only one that really benefited from them working together is Remco, Jonas was clearly at a disadvantage, and Tadej does not need it, did he expect them to work hard to secure him a 3rd place in the podium?

Smart by Pog, Remco will fall for this and be in his corner to try to bang up on Vinge.

It's resisting to think so by the nature of Remco, however, everybody knows this, and I think Tom Steels et al will do everything to try and manage this without risk of heavy backlash.
Troyers stage is not Cîme de la Bonette du Restefond stage. He did the right things yesterday IMO, a stage scripted for "Remco doing his things". And I'm sure he knows Pyrenées and the Alps are different breeds, requiring different takes.

It was not about expecting, it was about hoping. Remco realises very well that Vingegaard had his reasons not to collaborate, but it's also normal he was disappointed that it didn't work out. He hoped to secure his podium spot and in the same time he understands that Vingegaard's ambitions are different. That's all.

That’s true, and hope is okay.

But the impression I got from the interview is that he was disappointed that he did not, even sent a veiled insult, which he wouldn’t do if he did not expect him to.

Anyways, like said in a previous post, I like Remco, but that interview did not make him look good.

If he had any hope that Vingegaard would help him secure his podium spot at the expense of his own chance for the overall win, he's not a very smart man, but that seems plausible.

Hoping and expecting are 2 different things. Of course, he didn't expect Vingegaard to help him secure his podium spot as Vingegaard has his own reasons and tactics to race or not. But, he might have hoped that Vingegaard would collaborate for one or another reason. Maybe to distance Roglic and other contenders. Only, after the gravel stage it is clear that Vingegaard has his eyes 100% on Pogacar. Again, nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't call Remco dumb for that. At least, it made it clear that Vingegaard focuses on Pogacar. Which could be good to know. Others can use this situation. Vingegaard might not react to attacks from other riders (Remco included). Pogacar will have to.
