He looked really good on the climb but didn’t have the legs to contest. Even if he has lost all his explosiveness, this was more about the legs so I don’t know what to think about it.

We’ll have to wait for stage 10 to see the climbing level of everyone.

It looked stupid but I think he did the right thing, calculated that he could gain a lot of time on his closest rivals and this was more prudent than mucking around and going for a small percentage win chance against Pogacar and others.
On main rivals, as in Vingegaard and Pogacar? If this isn't the case, then he should retire, because all the races he would still like to win they are the favorites

I'm still wondering why Schachmann is in this squad. This first week is when he should have been Evenepoel's man in the finals. He has been completely invisible. Today Van Wilder did a great job, let's hope his form is on point because with Cattaneo out, he might be the only one to moderately support Evenepoel.

His acceleration distanced many including Roglic. What concerns me is that his sprint is nowhere in commarison with last year.
He explained that, that he put that time training toward his climbing instead of his punch. We'll know in a few days, but if this turns out to be true, then it will likely be a wise decision. Him losing a few seconds here and there and missing out on bonis will very soon pale in comparison to performing a few minutes better in the mountains.

What have they been doing at that altitude camp? It was supposed to be an amazing camp, everyone was happy, they arrive at Dauphine and no one is performing

Honestly, don’t know what to think about that for him.

Did well to follow. Then slowed it down when going to the front. Didnt try in the sprint.

Was it ”good” legs? I am not sure.

We will see when we get to real mountains.
He did try, but his legs slowly died in the last few hundred meters before the sprint. I think Red Rick is right when he says it's a 4 min power problem, and I don't think it'll mean anything for the long climbs.

He looked very good today. That said; I don't think it indicates he's the same relative to the super climbers. Longer efforts will net bigger gaps but it was a good sign for the longer term progression. His guys were around him at the end today, too. Another good omen.

It was also a headwind.

Probably they didn't lie and it was really funny but for other reasons!
