Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

Around 6.6 W/Kg sounds closer to reality.
Still really impressive, but someone like Sobrero did 7 W/kg for almost 10min on the final climb of the Queenstage of last years Tour of Slovenia when he was as fast as Pogacar (442W for 9:55 at a bodyweight of 63kg). https://www.strava.com/activities/5457812634/segments/2838818772453952392
In general really find it hard to compare sub 20min efforts because 2-3min longer makes a huge difference.
Why does some random number sound closer to reality? He's 90 seconds faster on a 15 minute climb than MAL who already pushed 6.25 w/kg. That means he's exactly 10% faster. If anything, 6.6 sounds farther from reality. Furthermore i have read that the roadsurface of the climb is really bad, which makes it even more likely that riders have to push bigger numbers in order to get a similar result as on comparable climbs. Reading Tombonnen's post, of him being faster than MAL on a section where MAL was pushing his biggest numbers, 6.6 seems quite unlikely even.

Please change the title of this thread. Not going to happen anymore. Thank you.
Because it was ever meant to be a serious comparison to a rider from an age when there were only 4 nationalities in the peloton, an age when everybody doped and you'd get suspended for 2 weeks when caught, and everybody rode every race. Why are so many people determined to take a title which is clearly meant to say ''this guy is going to be stellar'' as an actual prophecy of him being the new Merckx.

But if you must, start here.

Oh, and thank you.

Do you think the increasing number of Remco-trolls have anything to do with your constant need to white knight, logic? Personally I really admire the young guy, and truly enjoy your insights and news about him, but the blame of derailing of this thread partly lies with you IMO. Just leave them be and we'll hopefully get a cleaner thread.
Yes i'm the reason people can't use arguments, can't read, can't think... and feel the need to troll. I'm sorry.

I had a dream that Evenepoel attacked with around 50 km to go in Liège at a slow speed so that he only gained distance slowly.
Pogacar just smirked at Valverde who raised his eyebrows at the whole spectacle. But it was not long before Evenepoel gained 100 metres and then he turned back around to show Pogacar that he had cobblestones in his pockets, He slowly took them out and threw them to the side of the road.

With that weight gone his speed went crazy and Pogacar panicked. As he tried to close the distance he totally boomed

Who won in the end? Nibali?

This is actually what happened at Lombardia, but Remco forgot to take the cobblestones out of his pocket.

I just have a question for Remco's fans : what were his main goals before the start of the season ?
If I just look at the way the team built his calendar, I would be tempted to say :

  1. Vuelta
  2. LBL
  3. A major one week stage race : between Tirreno/Iztulia/Suisse
Or is Iztulia only preparation for LBL ?

Has he made any statements about this ?

His main goals are the Ardennes classics in Spring and the Vuelta late summer. In a recent interview he said that Izulia is basically his 3rd week of preparation for the Ardennes after an altitude training on Tenerife. He or Alaphilippe still aim for a podium spot if things work out but it's not a major goal. The team does go after a stage win. Remco also said that the TT is too short and too technical so he doesn't expect a top result there. His first major goal will be his home race (Brabantse Pijl). Another goal is to help Alaphilippe in the final of the Waalse Pijl. LBL is clearly his primary goal this spring. I assume he will be co-leader together with Alaphilippe.

I would say Vuelta is the biggest goal with Tirreno having been the biggest week long goal to see where he stands. Itzulia I see more as high quality prep for the Ardennes so a good result here is not essential as long as the shape is built to make the final selection in Liege.
