Signs of weakness today (yes i know he carried the breakaway, but a very good Remco can do that and still drop them) so I think he will have no chance on Angliru If he tries to go with the GC guys there.
He did a 90 km TT yesterday and was the most active rider today, he just run out of battery, but the legs are there.
If i was Remco, i'd try to go on Cordal with Cattaneo or Vervaeke in the break.

If you are a detractor, sure, you will only focus on what could have gone better. We're talking about fans.
I am a fan of him as much as Pog or Van der Poel, definitely not a detractor. Winning from a breakaway after a collapse like this is not vindication though, treating it as such is what creates detractors. I hope he puts it together next year but for now I hope he goes toe to toe on Angliru with the GC group without any off days in between.

I think there are three possibilities in terms of his motivations for the coming week ...

  1. He repeatedly goes for stage wins
  2. He does what you suggested, and treats the rest of the race like he's going for GC
  3. He focuses on padding his mountain classification points (I hope not)

And yes, these are not necessarily mutually exclusive

What i donot know is why aren't his teammates getting in the breakaway to help him out considering there is not much for them to do anymore for GC
Making all the others keep working for him, when he has lost out on the main goal, would be great for moral. Not getting an opportunity of their own on a stage.

I dont think anyone of them really had the legs to go into the break either. Not today at least.

Evenepoel not happy with Jumbo policing his breakaway moves.

I called it!

There's just no way Jumbo let a rouleur of his quality gain a bucket load of time again, a day after already gaining back 8 minutes.

They'll be all over him on Tuesday & Wednesday as well if he doesn't ship a load of time on purpose before the Angliru stage.

Unfortunlately Jumbo are so strong that it doesn’t matter if they waste a lot of energy on a guy 15 minutes down because UAE and Mas aren’t strong enough to take advantage of it.

Bit of a clickbait title, in the Sporza article he said that jokingly, but the title here doesn’t reflect that

Remco's reaction today shows he is exceptional, but you aren't allowed to have a bad day when fighting for GC. This must be overcome or else he is destined to never win the Tour. But how can you go from losing nearly half an hour, to then win by 8 minutes? His head? His body? Both? The whole thing seems surreal. I've never seen what he did today after such a debacle. Fragility and invincible strength, schizophrenia on two wheels.
He planned it yesterday. Knew he couldn't compete .. in reality...for gc ...so best to just take a rest day and go for a mountain stage win. Say he cried..etc. Gotta hand it to him it's great for PR...look at all of the posts of how awesome the turnaround was. But he isn't a real gc contender around real in shape gc contenders. Domestiques do this all the time. Lose many minutes then lead the peleton. It's all planned. Remco would rather to not try alline yesterday than appear to try and be trounced. Then come back next day and be let in a breakaway because the real riders ...gc riders..know he is out. But let all the heroes have their day.

Sure he fake cried… Seriously how *** up are you mentally to think such a thing. Are you a teenager or just an adult with no empathy for anyone besides the people close to you?

Good assessment. Makes a lot of sense. Had hoped he would climb and win against the best as had been promised.
