Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

He just did what he said: demonstrating to JV that he doesn't care about the GC anymore. I think it's a good strategy because it gives him the most chances to win stages and the KOM.

Some argue that he should stay with the GC group in all mountain stages 'to test himself and learn' but that clearly conflicts with his winner mentality. I can see the value in doing that but the only other good option is his current strategy. It allows him also for once to ride without pressure and enjoy what he did always earlier in his carreer, going for long range attacks, so why not?
Ok, I am not arguing any of that. Just thought and was told he would clean up every GC in the GTs. That he would be that good, so I guess it is natural to be disappointed with him not living up to the potential that was promised. Many feels that way from what I can see.

That he was more suited to one-day races, one-week stage races and winning stages is something a lot of people has said for a long time. Maybe they were right. Still time to prove those wrong, I guess. One can only feel disappointed now.

Ok, it is still allowed to feel disappointed by that. That he wasnt able to challenge for GC. That he has failed again. That he is not riding to the potential that has been echoed and spoken of.

Dont understand why you keep taking things out of context and want to harp on it like this.
So you are asking if people are still disappointed by the result of stage 13, while we are already at stage 17? Because there's nothing to be disappointed about since that stage.

Also on your last sentence, let's not pretend that you want to have an honest discussion about Evenepoel. Everyone knows you are just trolling this topic.

I was answering another poster. Then the usual suspects came running and started quoting me. Feel free to ignore. Other people are allowed to discuss things, if they want to. Stop complaining and making accusations.

Sure, that's why you do things like this. Has nothing to do with you being a troll and hater. I don't even understand why you aren't banned from this thread.

Before Tourmalet

After Tourmalet
Thanks for this!

I was clearly very excited to see him race before it. Finally proving the doubters wrong! Many of us wanting to see him finally do it!

Then felt shocked and disappointed by the ride, after the stage. Nothing like what has been said about him and before the stage happened :(

Normal fan-reaction, when expectations were high.

Very harsh making personal attacks like you are doing now., if anyone deserves a ban it should be you for that. Just ignore. You dont have to interact.

Surely then, he can win on Angliru from the peloton today?
This was posted before Tourmalet, and before seeing Vingegaard in current form. I don't think that Evenepoel in decent form would be able to follow Vingegaard in his current form. And his current form I have no clue about. Stage 14 was impressive, but there was also stage 13, so...

He would still be the second best of the peloton, and I can still see him win today if JV gives him enough room. Maybe Vingegaard can take revenge on Remco for Gesink last year.

So you more or less think the same as @Salvarani: Before Tourmalet he was supposed to be the best climber in the race, and now you don't think he is good enough to win in a direct duel with the other contenders?

Why? He said he wasn't going to go for it
You just answered your own question. He came to the Vuelta to compete against Vingegaard etc, and now he isn't even trying anymore. I was looking forward to Evenepoel dispelling the myth that he doesn't have what it takes against the likes of Pogacar and Vingegaard (in the mountains), but so far this Vuelta he has only fueled those criticisms lol.

It seems there won't even be a single mountain stage this Vuelta where both have their best legs and compete against each other, despite him saying before the Vuelta he was coming to learn from him. https://www.wielerflits.be/nieuws/r...indpodium-wil-leren-van-vingegaard-en-roglic/

With the difference that Salvarini was faking the positivity... He thought Remco was overrated for a long time now. Are you saying that suddenly changed before this Vuelta?

How do you know I was "faking" it?

I have been a fan for a long time. That I have thought he is overrated is your interpretation. I have never said that. Just because I dont agree with your clique about everything? Apparently that is something you must do at all times. You keep quoting me and following me around, when I am never the first one to respond or talk to you. Just ignore. What is the problem? You are basically harassing me now for no reason.

Lately, this thread is flooded by people that are clearly no fan or neutral poster, clearly miss many details about him and his past achievements but still make statements about him with complete certainty. Evidence is needed or it has no value. If it is only a personal feeling or a thought, make sure you say "I think" or "I feel". If you are here because of an emotional issue such as envy, being annoyed by Remco or Remco fans or just hatred, I suggest to expose yourself. You may feel better and we don't waste our time answering.

I miss the "I think" in the bolded part of the second quote.
Btw, Jumbo doesn't need to care if Remco is interested in GC or not. He's not danger to them anymore. He lost time to be able to go in escapes easier. Yes. That's not the same thing as "demonstrating to another team that he isn't interested" That would imply that this other team might think, he still is interested. Jumbos dominance might be annoying but that doesn't make them retards.

Anyway, I hope you're better and you are learning to overcome your hate, envy or annoyance.

Lol! "I think" you missed something. Regarding the bolded part: I am just stating what Remco said and also did. Read his interviews. Apparantly Vingegaard was not that sure and Remco wanted to make a statement. And for the hate part etc ... I am good, don't worry, as a Remco fan I don't see the point of hating him 😀 I even don't hate the haters.

This is a shallow retort, the only objective of which is to be polemical. As per the omission of the "I think" in peterfin's post, it was perfectly justified, since Remco himself on several occasions said his GC bid was over, thus there was no need to emphasize a personal conviction. Personally I don't care that some keyboard warriors, who find Evenepoel unlikeable, enjoy making petty insults to provoke a response. However, witout blushing, it only needs to acknowledged for what it is: puerile and hence unworthy of consideration.
