What was his highest VAM that day?His performance on stage 14
Probably around AlmeidaSo how well do his supporters think he'd have done today if he had stayed in the peloton and fought against the GC riders on Angliru?
How is that relevant when you are all day in the attack? This isn’t going all out for 30min at the end of the race, this is going all out during the whole day at a lower pace. But the total effort is definitely higherWhat was his highest VAM that day?
His relative strength is as a rouleur, and it was a great performance as such. It's just no example of him actually climbing fast. How is that relevant when you are all day in the attack? Where in this Vuelta had Landa and Poels shown the form to outclimb Mas and Ayoso?Where in this Vuelta has he shown the form to out-climb Mas, Ayuso and Uijtdebroeks? Javalambre?
Yes, because if you're able to perform so well over a long period of time, it indicates that you are in great form, and you're also capable of doing that on a mountain finish. Feel free to think he wouldn't have been able to do this, we'll never know. His relative strength is as a rouleur, and it was a great performance as such. It's just no example of him actually climbing fast.
He has paced the group of favourites on a 13' hill and he has won an 11-rider group sprint on Arinsal. That's it. On proper climbs he has done poorly throughout the race, yet he supposedly was able to drop Ayuso, Mas and Uijtdebroeks today?
Lately, this thread is flooded by people that are clearly no fan or neutral poster, clearly miss many details about him and his past achievements but still make statements about him with complete certainty. Evidence is needed or it has no value. If it is only a personal feeling or a thought, make sure you say "I think" or "I feel". If you are here because of an emotional issue such as envy, being annoyed by Remco or Remco fans or just hatred, I suggest to expose yourself. You may feel better and we don't waste our time answering.
See the bolded parts. This is a shallow retort, the only objective of which is to be polemical. As per the omission of the "I think" in peterfin's post, it was perfectly justified, since Remco himself on several occasions said his GC bid was over, thus there was no need to emphasize a personal conviction. Personally I don't care that some keyboard warriors, who find Evenepoel unlikeable, enjoy making petty insults to provoke a response. However, witout blushing, it only needs to acknowledged for what it is: puerile and hence unworthy of consideration.
Me too.See the bolded parts.
I just adapt.
Sure, maybe Evenepoel could have surprised today and climbed better than he has done so far in the Vuelta. It's possible. But is there any particular reason to expect it?Where in this Vuelta had Landa and Poels shown the form to outclimb Mas and Ayoso?
Its almost like riders arent robots and its not exactly the same result list on every MTF.
I think the average performance level from Remco on stage 3, stage 6 and stage 8 would be enough to what I suggested. I think both Ayoso and Mas performed a lot worse today then they have been doing in the rest of the race.Sure, maybe Evenepoel could have surprised today and climbed better than he has done so far in the Vuelta. I think you severely underestimate the level on display today by Jumbo and Bahrain. The best here are only getting faster and faster throughout the race.I think the average performance level from Remco on stage 3, stage 6 and stage 8 would be enough to what I suggested. Are you saying that Mas and Ayoso was performing at the same level today compared with for example Tourmalet?I think you severely underestimate the level on display today by Jumbo and Bahrain. The best here are only getting faster and faster throughout the race.
I think so too but he could be on a downward curve too. He had already 61 race days and demanding training weeks. The WC was exceptional exhausting too as Pogacar and MVDP can confirm.I think the average performance level from Remco on stage 3, stage 6 and stage 8 would be enough to what I suggested. Tourmalet was a harder stage even if it was shorter, so they were slower on Tourmalet than Angliru. Maybe those two specifically were a bit weaker today than that day (again, they still climbed faster on Angliru), but the collective level of the top-5 (and top-10 for that matter) was a level higher today. Are you saying that Mas and Ayoso was performing at the same level today compared with for example Tourmalet?
Nope, maybe after a great preparation riding the TDF and not finishing top 10So can we agree Remco is not a GT rider?
He can't keep up with the best climbers. He tried and failed. FFS, don't waste this fantastic rider! He'll never win a GC again.
And there's nothing wrong with that. He tried and won one already! But that was an outlier. Leave the guy alone already regarding GC's.
He will go on to win multiple great classics of course. But he's no great GT rider, can we at least agree on that? Can we finally stop pretending he's the next coming?
He's only 23. And has already won a grand tour. So no.So can we agree Remco is not a GT rider?

Pog is probably better than Remco too. He's only 23. And has already won a grand tour. So no.
But can we can say he's never going to worry Vingegaard? Pretty certainly.

He himself clearly wants to do go down this route for the next couple of years, so if someone should “leave the guy alone” it’s probably those who says he should change his mind…Leave the guy alone already regarding GC's.
Remco still needs to prove he can climb like real men. The next Tour will be another test (or the Old man will choose the Giro instead...). Anyway he's still young so we will see.

MvdP and Pog may disagree, but nobody else.Remco has a comparative advantage in hilly classics
