Has anybody watched the latest Remco video "

Taking you with me to Il Lombardia 2023

I think for me it's better than the Netflix cycling videos.

After the TDF presentation, Lefevere talked with the media. He said that Evenepoel is thinking about doing the Giro-Tour double.

Apparently purely focusing on one isn't hard enough...

that's interesting...if he does a good job with the Giro and wins it then going into Le Tour would be less stressful and he would be full of confidence. But, like you say, it's extremely hard just to focus on one of them.

Just go to the Giro, collect the start money, win a few stages, get injured while you're in the lead, so people will continue to say you could/would have won it, then go to the Tour, and in case that doesn't work out it will be because of the injury. Then go on to win both Olympic titles and both WC titles, before crashing out of Lombardia and failing to win Chrono des Nations. I'd call that a season.

Same as Merckx did when he was 24

Remco is not a one race rider. He is a racer through the entire year

Who isn't, these days? People who only focus on the Tour, or only on the classics, hardly exist anymore. Maybe MVDP comes closest, in his new iteration at least.

Vingegaard to a fair extent. Just really rides stage races, focuses season around the Tour.
He only rides stage races. That's true. But he wins almost all of them, so you can hardly say that he's a one race rider.

The oldschool Andy Schleck type rider who only shows up for the Tour (and LBL, in Schleck's case) just doesn't exist anymore.

Makes sense to me.

The big 3 will probably not do the Giro Tour, so he gets less serious competition there.

It also allows him to ride the Tour with an "out", as if he has an off day the team can say "the Giro was too hard".

It allwos him to try the Tour and gain valuable experience, with much less pressure.

And prepare for the Olympics.

And prepare for the Olympics.

Depends, he may give riding GC a shot at the Tour until he hits an off day, and if that is a day late in the race it's not really great preparation for the Olympics.

If he doesn't ride GC or gets the off day early, I agree with you.

A journalist from Sporza saw Remco at the train station, and asked him about the Giro-Tour double. Remco said that after knowing the profiles of both races he won't do the Giro. All-in on the Tour de France.
That's a huge mistake IMO, given that all the big boys are going to the Tour and the Giro route suits him so well.

He wants to compete with the big boys. I’m sure he’s happy if he’s able to finish on the podium in the Tour knowing all the experience he’ll gain during the race
He'll be lucky to get a top 5 IMO, he's just not near their level. Look at this years Vuelta.
If I were him I would try and win the Giro (which let's be honest will be a second rate GC field). Then go to the Tour to try and win stages and gain experience.
Looking at the TDF route for next year, it really doesn't suit him. He's a quality rider sure, but I could see him getting a bit of a kicking off the big boys, which wouldn't be good for him.
This years Vuelta showed when the pressure is on, he can have a bad day and capitulate, and that's nothing compared to the pressure he'll face in the TDF.
Not hating on Remco, just my opinion!
