Isn't the Hammer Series the race where Betancur destroyed the field and everyone thought he was back on track for world domination..?
It was and Betancur went on to ride a very decent Tour before the Vuelta where he finally showed his 2013 shape on the same day he crashed out.

I think for someone of his talent his tour performance was fairly average.

Basically, great Remco is winning, but lets not get too carried away with this particular result.

I think nobody is expecting him to win the TDF 2019 here. It was a great performance... in the Hammer climb.

He did completely school the likes of Van Avermaet and Wellens, but yes, let's just keep pretending it's no big deal...

It's encouraging though. I don't know if this quite counts as a "pro win" (I guess not), but imo he's having a very respectable neo-pro season already, regardless of age and hype.

Yeah, its a bit too easy just to dismiss the performance because of that. But its some of the best riders in the world to ride in this terrain he outclassed - that means something.

Still needs more endurance. This race is more like a junior race than a pro road race in terms of distance and how they are riding.

He's probably big deal but I will wait for an actual race to claim that.

To be fair, everyone thinks Betancur is back on track for world domination every time he finishes a race...

Impressive ride. Campenaerts seemed to be dying in his wheel. Wouldn't be surprised if he wins the time trial as well.

Evenepoel about to win his first pro race... solo in the Baloise Belgium Tour. Will take the GC as well.
33 seconds at 6km from the finish.

EDIT: wins with 43 seconds.

Good for him, congrats!

Next mission: First WT win.

Why was Jakobsen complaining?
Something about asking a bottle and not getting a bottle. And there was also a squable with Wellens who wasn't happy that Jakobsen was trying to mess up the chase and sprinting for the boni seconds.

But the most hilarious scene of the day was Van Hooydonck not getting a wheel from the neutral mechanic.

Evenepoel now leads GC with over 50 seconds. Tomorrow ITT.

Yeah, that crash was odd. Tired explains it.

Great moment in his career. However he will need to keep is eyes wide open in the Ardennes style stage in order to win the overall too.

The corner before the one where Campenaerts crashed, Evenepoel had to correct his line. I think Campenaerts didn't feel comfortable following Evenepoel's wheel into the next corner. He followed a different line but obviously not the right one.

He was angry with Evenepoel for going that hard that early. "You were killing me, and I couldn't grab any bidons". A bit strange to complain to a 19-year-old who just won his first pro-race, but OK.

Felt he needed to school the kid in the ways of the peloton, I guess.

Kid seems to be learning fast. :)
