As a fanboy I am dissapointed. He didn't even make it to the final climb. :/
I hope there's a reason he's underperforming.

I am curious to hear his reaction after the race. I understand he is not in his best possible shape for the mountains but this was basically giving up before it all started.

Oh sweet Jesus, i hope he is okay, such a shame all things go wrong with him...
In the next real race he will shine like a diamond!

Hope this is a sign how he will perform in big climbs this year. Right now he seems far from being a GC contender. His TT form is great, but not his climbing.

Keep thinking back to what Jonathan Vaughters said about Remco:

1. Will win a lot of races, but he doubted he was a GT rider
2, That his advantage was from his CdA and not that he pushed a lot of power

Quickstep must have data. It must show that he is not for longer or steep climbs. Not sure why they keep moving him in GT direction as opposed to targeting what he has shown to be very good at.

Have they really pushed him in the GT direction though?

His climbing has become progressively worse since his return from injury and it hasn't been compensated with major gains elsewhere. Not sure whether it's a training thing, he never fully recovered or he's making Andy Schleck look like a late bloomer.

Always nice to see the arrogant kid who drives twice the speed limit and risk people's lives get dropped in the big races. Spilak would have gotten a top 10 today

Only in the Giro did he climb better last year (and how much better was he really there? The climbs in the first half suited him quite well), and his ITT is clearly better now than back then.

His TT is better? I think it might be about the same, but certainly not clearly better. In 2019 he was 1st in the EC TT and 2nd in the WC TT. He beat Ganna in every major or direct confrontation and he beat Dennis and Küng in Algarve 2020. Ganna did magically improve after that, but since 2021 Ganna hasn't been that dominant either. So far his two best performances in TT after his crash are the 2021 WC and last month's Algarve.

Dont think he will be the one to stand up. I think they are very different in what they can do. It is like comparing apples to oranges.
If he can still take a step physically like Vingegaard did in 2021 and Ganna in 2020, it's still possible. If not, and all he's left with is different preparation, different focus, better descending and positioning... if that is all there's left to improve, then no.

Almost a bit strange that a guy that is so good in the TTs and only about 60 kg isn't better in the mountains at the moment.....

"Since his return from injury", and what I said about his ITT is that it's clearly better now than it was last year when he was climbing better. I don't think he was climbing better in the fall than he is now, and I think he is TTing far better now than before the WCTT last year.

He's their cashcow who got them a long term sponsoship deal, so they want to ride the Remco for gts wave.
Let's wait and see how his climbing looks during the 2nd half of the season, after the Ardennes classics.

Evenepoel
What did Masnada do again against Pogacar?

He had a bad day but still finished ahead of Mas, MAL, Uran, etc.

strange ride for Evenepoel today

He lost most of his time (except to Pog) on the first ascent. Wonder what happened there.

His time up the second ascent was not that bad

I mean you are "right", but a bit unfair to put Mas there.
Oh I didn’t realize he crashed when I posted it. I just woke up, looked up the results on PCS, then read the riders thread first before the race ones. My b.

Edit. Stupid phone and it’s autocorrect.
