Weren't people saying in the race thread Segaert is a really bad sprinter?

Honestly the notion that he's suddenly the best GC sprinter without having to ever beat Pogacar is pretty ridiculous.
Yeah Segaert isn't the fastest. Still suprising he won after all the work he did. (he was also the big motor of the group before, segaert or campenaert as well).

Neither Remco nor Pogocar beat each other in a sprint. (Altough i have very much confidence that Pog wins the sprint 9 out of 10)

edit: in the interview Remco stated he rides the Vuelta if he feels he can be 100% by then. otherwise he will do the classics. (Which probably aligns with a previous poster who said that remco is build for 1 day races. I think he feels that himself that he can do better in classics @ 95% than in a GT at the same fitness level.)

In those classics (long ones, Montreal isn't that long), being fresher makes a big difference. (ask VDP , Boonen, WVA). (Hence never say 10 out of 10)
Montreal is 220km and ~5000m of climbing so it’s not exactly a quick Sunday coffee ride. Pogi won that sprint most likely because it was after a long hard race, and he has a pretty good track record in those.

Having said that, I do agree with you though that you never know what might happen at the end of a long classic - typical sprinting ability often goes out the window

Evenepoel just makes it a longer sprint. On average he starts his sprint 75km from the finish, where as Pogacar waits until 50km from the finish.

So he waited 45km to long today? :)

It kind of makes sense, because if he felt super, he probably would have followed WVA in the beginning.

edit: Just saw that they averaged 47,814km/h over 232,8km :fearscream:

So what's next for Remco: the Tour?

Classica San Sebastian

"Super bad" in the beginning.
