Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

If Remco didn't know that he was racing for the win, I blame the team. He is riding his ars off and not counting as the break gets caught and dropped. The team should have made it very clear in his ear that he was at the front.
100%, and fault of him and the team but mostly the team. They can see who’s in front of there is someone else hike Evenepoel or any other rider is doing their thing. It’s the same reason there’s so many coaches in NFL in order to see everything. They had one job and failed, just have to learn from it to be better. Same with the team complaining about the finish of stage 3 yet not telling Evenepoel.

He certainly is box office, no dull day with the kid!

Usually when he's this disappointed/annoyed he comes back with a vengeance.

I'm already excited to see what he has in store!
With Remco, they have facial expression, gestures, crashes, a no holds barred mouth and of course insane capability/incapability to climb depends on which side and rabid fans & haters plus drama(on and off the bike) which makes for all the news worthy material that they need. In fact i can bet that he has contributed to more news that the entire Jumbo Visma team this Vuelta. He is a one man news making machine and he is taking on the Jumbo Visma team almost single handedly.

No shame in losing out today, as he was forced to do all the work on the last climb AND lead out the sprint. Roglic's lead out man, however, had the Slovenian been forced to take up the pace, Remco probably wins. Once again Rog's modus operandi is effective, but without panache, something which simply characterizes his way of racing. The important thing is Remco looked good. On to tomorrow.
Leave Rog alone. I can assure you his fans love his way of racing. Rather than worrying about Rog’s panache, focus on your 10 years younger guy being able to stay with him in GC.

I don't know if it's the crash or something else but he doesn't look on the same level as last year, didn't he dropped everyone on a similar climb in 2022?
The level is the same as last year. This year, the competition is much stronger - which is exactly what many of us were pointing out before the Vuelta but were quite aggressively silenced by some of the guys here.

This year, Remco is fighting peak Roglic, Vinge (not peak, but still Vinge), 1 year olderAyuso… Last year, there was only Mas to beat…

I actually think he’s doing pretty well so far.

Kuss rides dom, and Roglic and Vingo attack Remco. Kuss has no distorted dreams of winning this bike race.
Kuss has two and one third GTs in his legs this season and leads by several minutes over Remco. He doesn't have to do much but survive unless a pivotal moment occurs and he knows his season is done. That can happen but Remco is the one that needs to deal with a full hand of other contenders that are ahead and just behind him on GC.
Welcome to the Big Leagues, Mr. Evenpoel.
And this is GT lite compared to France. His team will be tested and he'd better "focus" as one of this other fans mentioned on another rider's thread. He's good but has to prove he can go this 3 weeks.

Press headline has “Remco rages at missed opportunity…”

I guess that’s all the haters read as it confirms their bias. He absolutely did not “rage”. Lol!
he raged, but mostly in the English press interview, which doesn't help improving his carefully polished image through his recent youtube videos.

In the Flemish interview for Sporza, he was much more joking, laid back...

But if I may give some critique: He still missed some relativism / self-criticism: he shouldn't blame anyone else but himself and admit he was an idiot sandwich. He should delay any interviews in the first 15 minutes after finishing a race as his competitiveness / post-race adrenaline are in the way of a balanced take on the matter of the day.

As a journalist of a Flemish tv-station confirmed. It was nearly impossible to communicate using radio during the final ascent. They had the same problems. The small group of favorites caught up with the fugitives one by one. Without radio impossible to know as a rider if whether there were any riders ahead

Breakaway was within a minute like 15 kms before they hit the final ascent.

So what ? In the hectic of the final impossible to evaluate. Anyway. The favorites still cought up with fugitives in the final climb. If the radiocommunication doesn't work, it's impossible to known what the actual situation in the race is. But judging otherwise lying in your armchair is all too easy

Judging is easy because figuring out the right decision even based on the incomplete information provided is pretty easy.

to be fair Mas still there and he didn't lost a meter yesterday, pretty much same as Almeida and Soler, last year he destroyed the field on a similar climb

Sprintgate is amusing but does it really matter? A 4 second difference. A mon avis, Remco and Rog looked like they had more in the tank yesterday, Vingo and Ayuso looked on the limit. If everyone stays healthy and illness free, Remco will have a lead on all after the tt. The race will be decided on the real mountain stages. (Kuss will lose time in the tt and fade.)
