In his column in Het Nieuwsblad last week Lefevere said that Vervaeke (at that time) wasn't in Spain yet because he just became a father again.

Lefevere also confirmed that Cattaneo (who would have been a certainty otherwise) is out because of health problems.

He said that besides Remco, at this time nobody is certain to be selected yet but that the riders training with Remco at Sierra Nevada obviously have a good chance. (Lampaert, Pedersen, Moscon, Van Wilder and Landa + Vervaeke who joined later).

There is a longlist of 12 riders and according to Lefevere the decision about the 8th rider is always the most difficult one and this will be the case also this year.

So if everybody stays healthy and in shape we have seven riders basically confirmed: Remco, Landa, Van Wilder, Vervaeke, Lampaert, Pedersen, Moscon.

Apart from his injury, it has been a quiet year sofar for Remco. No team drama, no media circus around him, no social media fights about him ... in general less controversy and distractions that consume mental energy and result in loss of focus. With the most important summer in his pro career coming up, that is exactly what he needs right now.

Because the most "lucky" and successful people will tell you it is because they have worked very hard. You make your own "luck" that way.

Anything that seems "effortless"... just know it is a lot of hard work behind it.

Greatness has to be built on both talent... but more importantly hard work.

He had a really bad crash... but he wasnt "nearly dying".

The consequences could have been worse, for sure, but his life wasnt in danger because of the crash. However, it could have been career-ending and he lost a lot of time because of it.

Anyone making it to pro level have either exceptional talent or have worked very hard to get there.

Certainly he would had a better palmares, especially in one day races until today, yet, he is still young.

The combo of exceptional talent + hard work is "how it should be".

But I think in history there have been a lot exceptional talents, in many sports, who didnt really have same drive for practice or training. Not having the right mindset or letting other things distract them in life. Where the ceiling could have been so much higher than what the outcome was and where less talented achieved much more from their hard work over time.

A lot of different things play a role.

Exceptional talent, ward work, and a bit of luck, because as we can see in the last years, it just takes one bad crash to mess up things.
