This Dauphine is the advent of Indurains era. Skeletal Rogla barely managed to stomp those big boys gaining mamooth 2 seconds. Remco knows it: a few more kilos and he'll be climbing with the best while destroying them in TTs!

Well Logic is obsessed with Remco. And if youre obsessed with Remco, its pretty natural to also obsess over his weight, because he does looks like a bodybuilder out there and its pretty obvious thats one of the keys for him if he wants to compete in GTs (and one week stage races as well which he should win easily. but doesnt).

All of this did make me wonder. Maybe his plan really is to only reach peak climbing shape in the pyrenees because there are only 1.5 mountain stages until then and the biggest days in that part of the race might actually be the TT and stage 9, where climbing isn't important at all? It does all feel like he is behind plan but I mean, going into a GT a bit undercooked isn't exactly unheard of.
It may be the plan because it's the only option not because it's a choice.

Could it not be his wife who likes a more muscular Remco? When it comes to bedroom antics, she may like a muscle bosun to a skinny little runt, so he naturally obliges. He needs to make a choice, either GT GC races, average 1 week/1 day races, ITT's or his wife. C'mon Remco, which is it.
Maybe she isnt the best cook and poor Remco has to microwave processed food or forcing him to order pizza three times a week after a long day of training.
Today is the last day we see him in the NC jersey. I am not expecting he defends it this year but he could still surprise us.

I think he will ride the NC Road Race, certainly not the time trial. It features the Berendries, so one never knows.

Peaking weight wise during the back end of the Tour one is preparing for is a pretty outdated concept. One needs to be at the optimal weight all the time (maybe except from October to February). That is the only way to train the body to perform optimally.

Yep, Giro to middle July is worst for grass pollen. Hopefully he's not also a Mugwort or Ragweed sufferer because that stretches through to September.

The thing is nobody really thinks Remco is "fat", but too muscular in his upper body, for speaking in terms of fat with pro cyclists is merely absurd. He needs to stop feeding this upper body muscular mass through diet, suffer through it, and then reboot his internal metabolic programing.
The least we can say is that this race gives him a reality check. I hope he uses the data to go in full monk mode and do everything right to be in proper shape during the TdF.

The problem is the expectations around him. He is still on good track for the goals he wanted to achieve in the Tour 2024. He is not ready yet to win the Tour, he is still young, and he needs time to continue to improve as a GC rider. The weight is important, but is not all about that.
He will never be a pure climber. He will win Grand Tours in the future, in the style Miguel Indurain won.
A number of riders in the peloton have won only one GT. A few have won two or more.

He is a generational talent, but needs to go to another team. A Belgian team just flaters him. He needs to be put under the torque of a serious regime, be squeezed like a lemon, and come out stronger.

What he accomplished is also merit from Quick step. They developed him really well since he was young.
Quick step have a good staff, and today he already showed better indications, but like i said, people should low the expectations around him in terms of Grand Tours. He is in the right track for the Tour, and peak in the last week.
He said he wanted to do top 5 and win some stages.
He will be more of one day racer in the future and specialist in Time trials, like he already is, and in Grand Tours he will do good results, but he will not be as dominant as can be in one day races and Time trials, because he will never be a pure climber.

Good performance from Remco today IMO. Looked better. His face also wasn't completely swollen
