a bunch of nations and cycling fans are more interested in who becomes the Belgian national champ than in other country's champs...they recognize the prestige. Just like more countries are interest in NASA than in the chinesse rocket program and myriad of other examples

Which has absolutely nothing to do with whether it was a reasonable decision for Evenepoel to compete in the Belgian championships, and even less of an answer as to whether Koopa was making a point when he suggested that it was a worthwhile decision.

The national race means a lot!

Both for the women and men are televised in my country. Getting some shine during a week where there are multiple events that are taking place for the NC in different sports.

Did not say their national race does not mean anything. It's always an honour to win that title and get to wear the national jersey of your country. But I do feel certain Titles just hold more weight for a number of reasons. So yes, i do feel the belgian title is objectively bigger than some other national titles. Just as i feel the italian jersey is objectively bigger than most other national jerseys as well.

I think I get what you are saying. I mean, as a Canadian, I know lots of Canadian riders who would be enormously proud to wear the national champs jersey. But the Canadian RR (or TT) title does not bring the same broad gravitas as the Belgian title brings. Different nations with different footprints in the world of bike racing. I mean, I doubt being on the Belgian national hockey team is the same as being on the Canadian national team. Whatevs

I haven't even commented Remco's participations in the nationals. I replied to Koopa's post where the poster argued that Belgian Nationals was comparable to classics.

Which you somehow did three posts before he made any reference to semi-classics (see posts 30,760 and 30,763 above) (and he never did claim that they were comparable to classics)

Not unless Dwars door Vlaanderen is a stage race? Only counting overall GC wins or 1 day race wins is ridiculous. Either discuss stage race GCs or classics, and then it's a fair point. But excluding stages in WT races is simply idiotic if the point is to discuss WT races in general.

Well, one can't be sure. There was Froome, there was Contador. Guys hard to beat in the mountains at their best. Obviously some years were much weaker while the last 5 years have been super-high level.

The level is overall so much higher now that it’s tough to know whether there’s just better talent* now or if those guys also would be performing much better if they’d ridden in this era.

This is why I have a love hate relationship with Remco. Kid has such a big personality off the road, almost a bad guy (he is way better though), a lot of charisma and guts on the bike but some of his fans are tough to listen or read (sometimes). The opposite might happens too but at least I base my opinion on facts.

Remco vs Big Mig on those routes would have been interesting. Could Remco have got close enough in the ITTs to make Indurain have to do more tactically than just follow and mark in the high mountains.

A lot of talk here about the importance of the Belgian NC but in the end only one thing matters: the Belgian champion jersey is the best-looking jersey of all. And Remco likes the jersey a lot.
