The Italian Eurosport commentaters were even saying with the crosswind something is about to happen, Vingo, Pogi, MVdP were at the front, while Remco and Soudal were in 70th position. Amateurish. Fools.
He will never win the TdF in a team that is not 100% focussed on winning the TdF and does not use all methods available to do so. I hope he gets it. He is a teamplayer so quiting QS might be a huge thing for him but he need toI’m so annoyed by his lack of taking stages like this seriously. Even if there was a very very very small chance of winning the Tour, it’s gone. Taking yellow stage 5, gone.
The man himself is first to blame. He should have been more attentative.Absolute masterclass to already drop time here so any criticism can just be thrown at the team rather than the man himself.
Bora and Quick-Step between them had 8 in that second group including Merlier and Meeus, you might think it would be worth putting at least 2 guys each into the chase both for GC and for the stage win.The man himself is first to blame. He should have been more attentative.
Absolutely, it's incredible the two favorites are at the very front during conditions any junior would know could lead to echelons, and Remco's making blueberry muffins at the back. The man himself is first to blame. He should have been more attentative.

Handtekeningen uitdelen is nu niet aan de orde voor Remco Evenepoel: "Get out of my way, please" | sporza
Good man Remco. who does that little *** think he is disturbing a 2x Olympic champ like that!
I have an even crazier hypothesis - it would be ok to be on the active part of such splits even sometimes, like, well, Vingegaard and Pogacar usually are.The man himself is first to blame. He should have been more attentative.
Agreed! What is the point of being really attentative in the first part of the stage, and totally turned off in the last decisive part!I cant get my head around this one, he should have been easy with the first group. The man himself is first to blame. He should have been more attentative.
To the bolded, I couldn't find any Saudal riders in good position. At the time, I was like wtf are you guys doing so far back. Vingo, Pogi, MvdP are at the tip of the race, there is wind, and you are in the belly of the group. Wtf.Agreed! What is the point of being really attentative in the first part of the stage, and totally turned off in the last decisive part!I cant get my head around this one, he should have been easy with the first group.
Merlier and Van Lerberghe was in a good position only a couple of kilometers before the split. Maybe they got called back to help Remco? If so a missed opportunity for Merlier to win the stage and get yellow. He is clearly a better sprinter then Phillipsen (atleast before the tour) He would have ripped apart that sprint.
Have to wait for interview/statement from Remco and the team before we can finally conclude, but this was shocking and sad for the rest of the tour.
QS was known to be an echelon team and a TTT team. With 8 potential sprints stages where echelons are a possibility you make sure that you have that covered.Absolutely, it's incredible the two favorites are at the very front during conditions any junior would know could lead to echelons, and Remco's making blueberry muffins at the back.
And what of the "Wolf Pack"? As a Belgian squad should they not know something about danger of echelons? The amateur nature of it is mind-boggling, especially since they came with Remco for GC and Merlier for this finish. Unbelievable.
That's what I estimated above, does it make me smarter than him?🧐he said he was in 70th. Thought things were calm in the peloton...
I'm starting to think he may not be very intelligent.
Did Merlier not want to win either?Another Remco moment!
Why root for a guy that doesn't want to win?
?!?! That's so insane and frustrating; it's just becoming a constant with him. "Thought things were calm...."? I have been a fan of his for a long time but this kind of thing makes it harder. It's stage 1 of the Tour, even if things are momentarily calm it's not rocket science to understand things can and will go thermonuclear in the blink of an eye. You are Remco Evenepoel, it's THE TOUR DE FRANCE, you're here for GC, you glue yourself to Tadej and Jonas, end of story. Good lord.he said he was in 70th. Thought things were calm in the peloton...
I'm starting to think he may not be very intelligent
Weeeellll, let's not go THAT far...Maybe they should ask Lefevere to come back out of retirement.
Couldn't care less, Tim can always go at it next sprint stage and nothing has changed. Giving away 40 seconds on GC though, good luck with that.Did Merlier not want to win either?
