It will take a miracle, but a Lombardy win would mean so much more for Remco than it would for Tadej.
Same was true for the EC RR imo. Against my own, more rational sense, i'll be hoping for a Remco win tomorrow.

It's not impossible. He was a half step below Pog last week and 3 ahead of the rest of the peloton

It's not impossible Pog is past peak whereas Remco is at peak this week, similar to Amstel (just dont choke int he sprint if that is the case)

Pog is past peak…

Not impossible, but I think that’s pulling at straws, frankly.

Only way is a mechanical.

At very best Remco catches him on the flat (only if he is just a little behind at top of last big climb). But then Remco has to sit on his wheel (which he has never done) and even then Pog could still win the sprint.

😐

Maybe the way to dull Pog's sprint is to do what Remco did at Amstel. Going to the front and cooking Pog on the flat. Pog, like everyone else, won't get much of a rest behind Remco

Slight difference here in that is @houtdffan suggesting he do it with Pog in a group of 2- Amstel Remco was chasing. Not sure how riding at the front for 20km before finish is going to increase his chances in a sprint.

Difficult to see Pog being beaten today - but it’s bike racing and anything can happen- he is definitely in the form to capitalise.
Yeah I don’t see Pogacar lose today. I’m just saying that Evenepoel can cook anyone on the flats with them in his wheel. Also Pogacar, which he showed after catching up with him.

His botched up his sprint by starting to early when there was headwind.

There is nothing wrong with leading out the sprint. How did that workout for MVDP in MSR this year?
If you know what you are doing, and you are the best sprinter, it can be the right play in the last 400 m.

But Evenepoel more or less led the group from the bottom of Cauberg.

Did he truly cook the others on the flat by pulling before the sprint? I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't have fared better with a far more "negative" approach, only hitting the wind in the last 200 m.

I agree that he pulls way too much in the last kilometers, and he probably is too nervous and inexperienced to push it to a standstill. But in this specific AGR case, there were bigger mistakes that were made besides that.

And do you generally think trying to cook the others on the flat by pulling them with a sustained high pace is a good approach to racing for him?

Yes. He showed that multiple times that it worked.

he he, belgians and their excuses, he he; you see thats why i like this thread; its damn funny
No one is saying that's an excuse. It's just an explanation of losing. Just like Pogacar NOT crashing during PR might have given a different result.
