Gert Jan Theunisse

Another post today reminded me of the only cyclist whose painface has truly scared me, Gert Jan Theunisse, one of the earliest out-there doping stories. Talking about him at work with a Flemish guy who remembers him better than I do made me think that I should check up on his whereabouts. He actually comes across as rather a gentle soul, I think.

He can be found these days doing training camps in Mallorca. Though he should probably be auditioning for gangster movies.

Durand is usually a commentator on big races for France 2.

Just for reference, Cédric Vasseur now does the same for RTBF here in Belgium.

Abdu may or may not breed pigeons in Italy. It's still very much a lovely mystery in the Robert Millar style (though Millar at least has recently resurfaced). [Source on Abdu from 2008]

Hervé and Marie are discussed above in this thread. Pensec I'll cover in a moment. As for Svorada, I'm not so sure.

EDIT: Jan Svorada appears to have gone down the usual "cycling grandee" route - store openings, public appearances and so on. He's also still an active MTB racer. Fascinatingly, he was a trainee electrician before turning to pro cycling, though he shows no sign of taking up that particular career again.
