As we all no doubt learned from atrocious commentator Sam Posey during CBS's '89 tour coverage, Gert-Jan never smiles. Therefore, most people probably spend the entire training camp trying to crack him up.

I bet he laughs like Bruce Bruce's uncle

I can't find much on Tony Rominger or Alex Zulle.:D

Rominger has worked as expert at german Eurosport for a couple of years but quit when commentator Klaus Angermann was fired.
I don't know for certain, but he may still be the manager of Andreas Klöden - he did also work together with Vinokourov, Kessler ans Sinkewitz a couple of years ago.

I think Bernhard Kohl wasn't mentioned in this thread before. He runs a bike store in Vienna.

One of my personal favorites Didi Thurau.

At age 22 he shocked the cycling world by holding on to the maillot jaune for 15 days, winning 4 stages. He exploited his status by doing a lot of six day races during the winter in return for sizable start money (but also by sacrificing to some degree a career as road racer). He even won an actual classic, LBL, in 1979 and the now defunct classic Zurich Metzgete in 1978. Later attempts at the TdF ended usually with a DNF (once with a disqualification because he assaulted a race official).

In 2000, as race director of 'Rund um den Henninger Turm' he took a wrong turn which almost cost the then leader the victory. In the same year, he had to auction off his villa in Frankfurt.

Late in his career, he had a few almost positives (long story) and later admitted freely the use of PEDs.

Apparently, nowadays you can book Didi as a motivational speaker.

I remember the summer of 1977 very well since it was my first visit to France. In July every newspaper talked about 'l'ange gueule'. It was the time I fell in love with cycling.

Time to bump this lovely thread.

The Worst winner of a monument thread got me thinking: What happened to Grzegorz Gwiazdowski? He didn't actually win a monument, but he had a stellar week in August 1999 winning Tour de l'Ain, finishing 2nd in Tour de Limousin before winning Meisterschaft von Zürich. Then two years of nothing at Francaise des Jeux and an early retirement at the tender age of 27. Anybody in the know?

We had a good thread going some time ago like this. :) Have a look here:

The last I have seen written in detail on De Las Cuevas was in 2002, running a cycling team and winning a little race in Guadeloupe. His interview back then was quite interesting. Curiously enough, FR Wikipedia has him trying for a comeback in 2006 but failing a dope test. No elaboration on that though.

I saw Van Hooydonck at the Ronde last year. Put on some weight but he looks well.

Jef Bernard is a correspondent for L'Equipe and a sometime commentator on French TV.

An interview with Delion in 2006 had him riding MTB. He was also interviewed as recently as 2009 about the old days but nobody thought to ask him about now.

he was trying to get back racing in mauritius scene, who have quite a big pro cycling scene, but got caught in one of his first races back.

He was managing Evans as well. Not sure if he still is.

Urs Zimmerman? I remember a Cyclesport interview a few years back and some good info in the Chasing the Badger book, but always wanted to see a real in depth profile of him and his time in the peloton and what he's been doing since.
