With Armstrong forced to suddenly withdraw from all triathlon competition, it would have been difficult to keep this private. Lance wouldn't be able to stand his fellow competitors calling him chicken for not showing up at Kona. At least now he can say he could've won it, were it not for a bunch of bureaucrats on a witch hunt.

Endurance sport is a build up sport. What was happening 12 months ago is not indicative or whether he is doping for tri. Greg Lemond was very poor in the off season. But yeah, he could well be doping. It would be interesting to see how it went. So is he banned from foreign events?

He will not be allowed to participate. He has been (at least temporarily) suspended by both the International Triathlon Union and the World Triathlon Corp., which is responsible for the Ironman series.

The whole "passport" concept is bogus. Over the last three years, my own hematocrit has tested as low as 34.7 and as high as 41 and everywhere in between, in a haphazard pattern. I've not taken any drugs. These things happen.

Right, normal sampling variability and of course ongoing physiological changes too. However, a lack of normal variability is weird and possibly sinister.

Er? There is no dig at LeMond. Lemond came to mind as I was just reading the recent comments in the Lemond thread about Lemond in the off season. But I could have used any pro to educate people on how being poor in one period doesn't indicate you should be poor all the time. People who aren't familar with endurance sport don't understand how it works, so it is important to educate them.

I think LeMond is a great rider. Sadly I think LeMond would be a hate figure for the 12 if he were riding now, as Wiggins is today, but that's not for this thread.

I've only seen Pereiro's, which could be summarized as "most tested athlete ever, never tested positive, same allegations as always, let's wait to see the outcome of the case, if it turns out he doped it would be a huge disappointment for me because I raced with him and he was great".

I would be interested to hear from riders on the 'clean' teams tweeting "about time they got this guy so we can get on with newly clean our sport and establishing it as a clean dope free sport" or some such ...

if he's radioshack's team trainer, why not put the radioschack address like with bruyneel and celaya?

Little is known about Martí, who is not a licensed medical doctor. He rarely speaks to the media and refused a routine interview request from VeloNews three years ago during a race in Spain. According to the USADA documents, Martí started working at U.S. Postal Service in 1999, then the rebranded Discovery Channel team through 2007 and switched to Astana in 2008.

Floyd Landis, speaking in an interview with the German TV station ARD in 2011, accused Martí of supplying riders with drugs.

“Pepe was a supplier of drugs to U.S. Postal when I was on the team,” Landis was quoted on ARD. “I often used (Martí) to buy growth hormones, EPO and other doping products. He was not a coach. He was nothing more than a known drug dealer.”

There was never any public reaction from Martí, but Alberto Contador’s representatives acknowledged that he worked with Martí during his time at both Discovery Channel and Astana. Contador has not reportedly worked with Martí since 2010.

pretty sure this wasnt 'released' by USADA ... was a leak from somewhere.

The letter was published only by the Washington Post ... then picked up by everyone after that. If it was released officially, everyone would have printed something from the start.
