Pinot is going to be exposed over the next few days!
Isn't on the level of Porte, Contador and Froome.
He has never beaten Contador and Froome in June & July.

Tonton: Sorry dude, respectfully, I can't help but quote you.

OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! :D

As Contador's fan get ready to jump out the window :p , I'm not ready to push the panic button just yet. My point remains that he doesn't want the circus to get to him, and that stage 6 tomorrow will tell us plenty.

Hot summer? No good.

We'll see.
Oli, cheer for your favorite riders as much as you want. Fine. But why go make statements in threads about riders that you obviously don't like, or don't know? That's a definition of "trolling" isn't it?

Good for Thibaut. He's a good kid. What's not to like? And lamb is good: I don't care about the mint jelly thing though :D .

“I find it hard to realize what's happening because I only got good feelings at the end. I was struggling all day. Had I been told in the climb to La Madeleine that I was going to win, I wouldn't have believed it. I was feeling average like the previous days so I didn't expect to do well here. I don't know what happened in the finale.

Sounds a bit strange though.

I believe when he saw Bardet doing useless things and wasting energy in the wrong time he thought "man, finishing behind this fool who doesn't know yet how to ride would be the ultimate disgrace for me. Even this guy is trying to help me win, let's do it."

just finished watching it. found my self saying Tonton has to be on the edge of his seat and other such comments. At the end saying Tonton has to be so happy. My wife asks who is Tonton? I explain and now she's sure I'm crazy

TBH the pressure from L'Équipe is completely understandable from a financial point of view. It's in L'Équipe's interest to drum up as much hype as possible in order to sell newspapers.

Doubt Pinot wanted Bardet to get the Yellow jersey - French riders are internally competitive - One only had to look at Gallopin working with Thomas in the last stage of PN to get back to the lead group - And Gallopin ended up the leading french GC rider at PN - And of course AGR2 Mondiale and FDJ are enemies.

Not so sure, really. Rivals? Yes. But not "enemies". On the FDJ website, Tibopino says that he would have worked for him until the final stretch. Romain knew that Thibaut is a better sprinter, he got too greedy.

In any case, nice win for Pinot, blood, sweat and tears on this one. And slowly but surely, he's building for himself a serious palmares.

His brother/coach Julien says that Thibaut is building up and I hope he's right. I want a hefty dose of Thibaut Pinot comes July :) .

Smashed the time trial championship it seems, niceeeee  How's the route for the road race? Would be nice to see Thibaut in the Tricolore every day in the Tour (wouldn't mind seeing him in yellow, though ;) )
He's not very confident for the road race. Said they will support Roux and Vichot.

What kind of course are the NCs on?

Will win easily the road race on sunday

No not easily. Alaf, Bardet, Barguil and maybe Gallopin will be great contenders as they all have a better jump than Pinot. But he will be one of the favourite, of course.

No reaction from Tonton ? :D
Sorry. I've been out of town all week with little wi-fi reception  .

Nice win: that was Thibaut's main objective and he crushed it. For the RR, he says that he hasn't ridden for more than 5 hours since the Dauphine and it's a 6 hour race. He feels that he may be limited down the stretch. Now, that's his training ground, at home, with a ton of fans cheering. I don't buy for a second that he won't go ftw.

Small group and sprint? He owns Bardet. But I don't think that he can dominate Gallopin, and certainly not Balaphilippe. It will be very complicated.

Please post a link on race day if you got one :).

Pinot was good in Suisse 2013, bad in Tour 2013.
Pinot was bad in Suisse 2014, good in Tour 2014.
Pinot was good in Suisse 2015, bad in Tour 2015 (for his standards and expectations, follow my storyline here).
Pinot was bad in Dauphine 2016, ........

I think it's hard to predict. But with him having the full backing of a team that will help him not loose time week 1. But he doesn't really have an excuse for performing so badly in the 2nd week of the race last year. Even on top form I find it hard to see him beating Froome, Quintana, Contador and Aru. Even if i think it would be good.

Top-10 plus 1 stage is like Bardet last year, good but not great.

On the FDJ site, Tibopino talked about taking chances and risk to lose everything. If so, he may try a low-stake poker move on the Lioran stage, take some shots in the Pyrenees, before teams begin to make calculations, defend a 6th place in the GC, chase and help the favorites. I'd like to see that. He has nothing to lose.

I'd settle for top-5 (beating Aru), plus 1 stage, plus KOM :) . Or podium (beating Aru) and nothing else. yeah, callme greedy ;) .

Add-on: in l'Equipe today Thibaut sets his objective to be in the top-5, then the journo says "maybe a bit higher", and Tibopino is candid, saying that "a la pedale" (meaning pure strength) he's not the best...and half of the posters bashed him as not ambitious enough, lacking the spirit of a champion. Des gros cons (excuse my French :) ).

Also, he mentioned the first two stages as windy and susceptible to create bordures, hoping to be close before the first ITT, where he wants to go ftw.

If only to shut up the moronic so-called French cycling fans, I want Pinot to do well. I'll never join that forum btw. I'd be permanently banned within a day, two at the most. He's a likeable guy, why all that negativity? Go figure...

Even years: 2012-the breakthrough, 2014-the confirmation, 2016?

Agreed. He's probably their best rider since Virenque (dunno about Bardet, still incognito imo).
He's still young though, so he will still improve. Maybe he won't reach the level of Quintana, but I can see him a notch below Aru, if not on pair with him.

His main disadvantage is being on a french team (besides being french and will all the pressure it brings).

It's not in interviews before the race that a rider has to show off. It's in the race with the legs. A top 5 would be a good result for Pinot. If anything higher is possible I'm sure he won't waste the opportunity.

It's hard to read stuff like that. Pinot is a great rider, but he's just fair when he says there are bettter riders than him. Stuff like this also happens in NL unfortunately.

You should join that forum though, only for a voice of reason. Try not to go fullragemode will be hard though :)
Or send Pinot a message and tell him not all french fans are crazy ;)
