I am more interested in the future how Pinot goes at Vuelta or Giro - He gets a good year and he can win - Unfortunately, French riders are poorly advised by French teams when it comes to GC at Grand Tours.

Same, I wish he could go to the Giro next year, but before I think he must check who's going to ride it. It would be bad that Froome or/and Quintana come at the same time, it would reduce a lot his chances of success. Next year it will be the 100th Giro and the big names could be really tempted to win it. But if it's the case, it would be a great opportunity for Pinot to go to the Tour with a chance of success ;)

I fear this stage for Pinot. Hectic and punchy finale, stressful day...
Same here. He can't start La Glacerie in 80th position, or hell lose 30 seconds, maybe more. Madiot has to be bold, have FDJ up front, get Thibaut in the top-15 comes the climb. He should know better. Otherwise it's a Mur de Bretagne/Huy fiasco waiting to happen. Why not sit on BMC's tail in the last 20km? With Porte/TJVG and GVA for the stage win, BMC will be up front. Fingers crossed...

He shouldn't have been so far of the head of the bunch at the beginning of the climb, Pierre Rolland is not a puncher at all but he finishes 12th. It was possible to avoid this loss of time only with the placement. But well, 11" is still ok.

I don't think so. And actually, at the very end, you see him and Reichenbach in the picture. I'd be curious (and will find the tape) to see how far he was from the last with the "same time". Very close I bet.

FDJ was at the back the entire day. Even with less than 10K to go, with opportunities to get closer. All together, which tells me that the riders were following team tactics. I was fuming: as much as I understand not wanting to repeat last year, it was way too defensive.

Yes, the final kilometer videos show that Pinot was very close to making the same time as the Froome group. 20 meters or so. Still, I'm fuming  . Questionable team tactics imo: conservative riding until week three is unlikely to result in a podium, which is now feasible with Contador (pretty much) out of the picture. BTW, too bad for Bertie and his supporters. I can't rejoice. As a Tibopino fan, I went through this last year. I remember the vultures making all that noise about bike handling skills, et caetera. Not fun. And not fair. And often coming from individuals who can't climb their driveway on a bike.

OK, I vented.

So now, two days with everybody else, a good Lioran stage that will separate the whey from the chaff, and we'll have a better picture. Thibaut is very much in it right now.

He looked bad throughout the last 40 kms I saw, but he held on like a champion!

But then again, it's like he always looks bad on a climb, especially in the beginning (something he's noticed himself) and then he gets better gradually. (Rettenbachferner-victory comes to mind).

He doesn't like short and steep climb like the pas de Peyrol, moreover it was the first climb of the day, not good for his diesel. It was very hot also, no worries for Pinot I think, he will be better this week-end. He didn't lose time, that's the most important. And yes he was one of the few who followed the attack of Bardet, so at the end he was good.

I thought that he was struggling, and mid-way through the final climb, he and Reichenbach came to the front quite quickly. Then Thibaut was quite explosive when Bardet lit the fuse. Also, nice job in an otherwise super dangerous descent. So far he hasn't spent much energy at all, in the end he looked fresh. I'm starting to feel good. The week-end will tell us more. The Arcalis MTF should suit Tibopino quite well.

Could we wait to see any reason for this poor performance ? A lot of worst climbers were still here, it can't be explained by a normal reason I'd say.
But still sad. His Tour is done on a poor slow paced stage..
