Teams & Riders Thibaut Pinot discussion thread

I'm popping a bottle of Cava tonight :) . I always disliked that Giro-Tour thing. Yes, I could smell the Prosecco, I'll pass on the best of all, the Champagne (but who knows...Romain?), Cava is fine  .

Article in l'Equipe with a brutally honest Tibopino questioning himself more than anyone does here. Kwibus, yep, the kid is human. This DNF shattered him. He was two climbs away from having a great year and the rest is gravy, at age 28, looking forward to a '19 Tour campaign.

The Cuddles analogy, to some extend, yeah. I'll take a TdF win! TJVG in that discussion? Come on.

La Vuelta is not a perfect but a good design for Thibaut. Man!!! I can't wait!!! In the meantime, Bardet will (I hope) beat the crap of a very strong field in July. Vive La France!

@Tonton

skip Prosecco and try Franciacorta instead .... mostly matches a low to mid-tier champagne (unfortunately with often a higher price tag) ...
but of course, nothing compares to a Grand Cru Blanc de Blanc from Mesnil (or the neighbouring villages) or a Pinot based Grand Cru from Montagne de Reims ....

And of course the name is perfect for the recent events in Tibo's career :D
:D

Good for Thibaut, and for l'Equipe TV, which will surely broadcast La Vuelta and cash in big time like they have done the past two years with Il Giro. Good for the French fans who can have their chouchous competing in three and not just one GT. And good for El Tipobino. He will Horner that one, guaranteed :D .

No surprise if Pinot changes teams as he may want the pressure of riding for a Non-French team - And of course he can ride a more suitable calendar.
If Pinot goes to Sky he’ be used solely as a domestique for Froome. They will want value for their money, and one less contender for Froome and Thomas. Just like Landa, Kwiatkowski, Nieve, Porte, Henao etc.

You've listed:

Three Paris Nice Titles
MSR
Two Giro Mountains jerseys
Tirreno
Cataluyna
Burgos
Alps

I could go on, Tibault would not be wanting for opportunities.

He'd still be competing for a spot regardless. Unless they give him a Landa/Porte-style "one-off (if you fail)" giro chance first off, but come July he'll be on domestique duties. Poels is chomping at the bit for a leadership role and I'm reading Thomas is likely to remain at Sky.

Maybe that's what he needs to be in a team of sharks that will push him to be a better rider. If he wants to win the tour, where better to learn how than a team that could be 6 out of seven?

Maybe once he's a Sky rider you'll know how to spell his name :)

Tibo doesn't have to "learn how", he needs to get his act together and the added pressure from in-team competition for a GT lead wouldn't help him with that.

Look at the bright side, he could learn to TT properly?
He knows how to TT, see his 2016 results. However he is mentally and physically a bit frail, best stay at FDJ which IMO is the perfect team for him.

Mentally and physically frail means he won't last long with Sky then. I think he would only possibly go if they throw ridiculous money at him and I doubt that will happen. That said I think he needs to go to another team for a change of approach and some new opinions, I just don't think Sky is the best team for him. Somewhere like Michelton would be good but they are already top heavy. Because he is a bit frail many teams would probably prefer to develop younger talent than sign someone like Pinot even though he is relatively young himself as a GT rider. There would be a few teams interested I'm sure.

Compared to Giro and Tour leadership, that’s not enough for a rider of Pinot’s quality. He wants a GT win, and another Tour podium minimum. He would never get that at Sky.

Well in all fairness neither Henao, Kwiat, Nieve (altough great riders) are good enough for a GT leadership. Landa has been given chances and so was Porte (tour 2014 when Froome crashed) and then the Giro. The main problem for Pinot is not Froome, he will be 34 next year and can't go on forever. The problem is Bernal (and maybe Sivakov) who are supposed to be the next Sky leader(s). So yeah, In Sky he wont get many chances but still he will have some. And if he delivers.....and win the Giro for example Who know?s However I dont wanna see him at Sky. Mostly because the more GT contender from a different teams, the more interesting it is.
