For panache, Pinot brings his own special flavor of blood, sweat, tears, and truth. He is unique, a treasure for cycling. I hope I don't jinx him, as I have moved him to the top of my list of emotional favorites for the TDF. Realistically, a top five would be outstanding, and a podium incredible. He's done it before, so . . .

For those who wondering about his position, he changed it during winter because he felt some pain during long ITT and that made him lost some watts.

This is why he seems to be unconfortable on the bike. He is less aero too now, but he should able to do better ITT this season. He said yesterday too that he wasn't feeling particularly great ans that he couldn't get in the rythm at the beginning of his chrono.

No panic.

Sure is hard to like when watching him ride a TT bike. Can't think of any other top GC rider who looks worse, even including guys like Carapaz and Landa. Dumoulin and Roglic look like poetry in motion.

That explains it. Thanks.

A lot of love on the predictions thread, exposure in the media including CN, a strong performance at the Nationals, Thibaut says that he's in his best shape. Win the whole thing? Ineos will have too much I'm afraid, and year after year the other teams get cold feet. I'd be happy with a podium, anything more is sweet gravy. Please Gods of Cycling, no bad luck on the flat stages like in '15 or last year's Vuelta. Good luck Champ.

During his pre-race press conference, Thibaut wished that GFC be 5-8 in the TTT. Mission accomplished, and beyond the 8th place, aside from SK (big winner of the day), he lost very little to some contenders and actually took time on others. Tibopino should be pleased tonight.

Very impressed with FDJ keeping Pinot close with their TTT effort. I had thought they'd lose more time than that and be closer to where AG2R and Movistar are (although a little better than those two teams). Great job. Pinot is still in this.

Yeah clearly a very astute pickup and probably worth 10 seconds or more on his own which is vital in not leaving Pinot in a position of having to play catch-up from the start.

With Gaudu and Reichenbach he should not be isolated too early very often in the mountains and they may be strong enough to make some tactical plays.

Yeah, Kung deserves a bonus. I would have expected better with Lugvigsson, maybe Sinkeldam in the line-up...or Preidler  . Obviously there's a DS and he should know better than me, but I keep thinking that against Ineos, if your mountain guys are one level below their train as a group, like Movistar shows year in and year out, you are overwhelmed. So maybe you don't need too many climbers Reichenbach and Molard (same bike size and settings as Tibo) should be enough. Keep Gaudu as leader for the Vuelta. Just me sayin', but the proof is in the pudding: great day for GFC, Pinot on track for redemption at Le Tour. I'll stop criticizing GFC's front office, shut up and enjoy.

Marginal gains today ;) .

Cycling is so simple: keep pedaling. It happens so often that riders free wheel to the line, a gap opens, exceeds one second, and one can lose 5-10 seconds because he/she or someone ahead of him/her is just not paying attention.

I'm starting to like this Tour :) .

I must admit that I'm a nervous wreck right now. Since the route was unveiled, that sixth stage was in the back of my mind. So far, so good, and actually a little better than expected: no bad luck, a solid TTT, the stage is set for a great Tour, redemption. 5 down and 16 to go, as I like to put it.

In a few hours, the entire region will gather to support Thibaut Pinot. His name is everywhere on the pavement. The yellow jersey is within reach. So many marbles are in play...

I'm a nervous wreck and will be at work streaming what I can, restless. Tibopino may not win, but he'll do better than most. He may not win, but not by lack of effort. But I think, I hope, I pray that the crowd will carry him to be like in Lombardia: a fantastic rider, aggressive, decisive. No excuses, no regrets.

And I believe that he can win.
