Had he not lost that time we would have 1-2 both French.
Probably still will in the end. A lot of opportunities left for Pinot to make up the time he's lost, and he looks stronger than everyone ahead of him in the GC at the moment. His deficit isn't that big, especially not if Alaphilippe does indeed fade in the end like we're all still expecting.

Re:

The most remarkable thing about the current incarnation of Pinot is just how often he wins. In the last less than 11 months he has ten wins. That’s the kind of return you get from a top sprinter or whoever the best puncheur is in a given period, rather than what we expect from a GC climber. Better still those wins include a Monument, three GT stages, a couple of minor stage races and a semi classic. He is winning in bulk, but his wins are also prestigious and varied. He has really come into his own as one of the top riders in the peloton.

Fine win. He looks one of the best on the climbs so far.
...and so far so good ;) .

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the crosswinds. The freaking roundabout. Costly, but it ignited some raw, animal instinct in Tibopino. The rest day interview that some here misinterpreted was very clear: Thibaut vowed that he would remember it comes the ITT and the Tourmalet. And he did it. So much for lacking of a killer instinct; what a bullsh...you don't make it to this level if you're soft. But you don't have to be an AHole either. He's a nice guy, but on a bike he's mean, ruthless. GDL anyone?

Jalaphilippe is getting the attention: great. Now Thibaut can go about his business, make this a redemption Tour. Crowds are chanting his name. Vai Tibopino, before the race you said that you wanted to show "the true Thibaut Pinot" and you're doing it.

I have always believed in Thibaut Pinot. And I saw a guy who gets knocked down and gets back up, you know the rest, Stallone put it better than me. That's a Champion. Allez Thibaut!

Pino reached his highest level last Autumn, improving that little bit needed to be truly great. He and his team got the preparation for this Tour right managing to reach that same level when it's needed, in July. All he needs now is to keep cool and be brave, he is the strongest rider in the race.
