Dekker tweeted that he will ride the ardennes classics!
The 4 races that Gilbert won in a row last year.

Good news. It seems that his performances so far were good enough.
Let's see how he will do in those races. I actually don't expect him at the front in the finales yet.

260k races after 2 years of barely any racing will hurt. Valverde kept on training hard during his ban, but Dekker certainly didn't.

I don't see why people think that Dekker shouldn't be up to his full capabilities this year. He had already started racing last year and was up to a decent level ,and he should be at the same level as any other rider after doing preseason training

I don't think riding local crit races in Belgium quite compares to what the other contenders have been riding last year ;)

He did do well in Oman though, but that's a flat race. I don't think I myself can make any conclusion up until March at least

Dekker will start in Paris Nice next weekend. So no Montepaschi and no Tirreno, change of plans.

Wonder how he will do :) Today he finished in the 1st group in Almeria helping Kreder to an 8th place.

Any clue why P-N instead of Tirreno? I was under the impression that Dekker wanted to go to Tirreno, but had to prove himself first. But Paris-Nice is just as hard a race, so I'm not sure what the thinking is.

Well he was always on the inscription list for PN and not on TA. So I guess the team decided for him.

Sure Garmin has its reasons. But it's true TD prefers TA. He hasn't ridden Paris Nice since he was a neo-pro (2005). I'm wondering if he'll do better than his 20-year old counterpart.

Lol, he won the bunch sprint... mention of a serious crash in the final km involving a Garmin dude, maybe Dekker was launching the sprint for Kreder?

It's obviously a minor victory, but it's a nice start.

Indeed, circumstances aren't all that important either. This could be a great moral boost for him. Maybe he will show glimpses of his old self in romandie?

It looks like his move to Garmin is working out well. He seems to have been a useful if unspectacular domestique for the early season, has now picked up an opportunist's win, and looks like he has a bit of form coming into the Ardennes.

We still don't really have a clue how it looked when he rode off unfortunately.
But the only fall reported happened at the finish line, as is clearly visible. So he won with own power.

edit:
@michelkreder
Best of all today was @DekkerThomas told me 2laps before finish he go's for a attack in last k.. And he did and won! #hero

Not bad. They are the kind of riders capable of riding impressive prologues. Bursty types..
