BroDeal, it's pretty hilarious how transparently gleeful you are that someone easy to mock and belittle has entered this thread.

Yep. Has it never entered your retarted head that some people may just have an opinion that differs to yours? Doesn't mean that either is necessarily right, but please, for the sake of a 'forum' accept it.

So, Cavendish in all his might didn't win the Commonwealth Games road race. I have to admit it was very gracious of him to admit how much Millar worked to help him out.

Odd thing though...in all his crying about a new contract he doesn't thank his team for all the work they have done to carry him to the finish line the past couple years. In India he admits that without a strong team he can't compete, maybe he should remember his own words when he is spouting off like a spoiled little boy.

I thought he thanked his team after every race that he wins, plus apologised when he screwed things up. Did I read that he thanked his Manx team for all the work they did and apologised for not delivering at the end. How much thanking and apologising is he supposed to do?

That criticism is so wide of the mark. Cav constantly thanks his team-mates for their help, he even buys gifts for them. He might wear his heart on his sleeve but he is very generous in his praise for those who help him.

Im with the others - the one thing he does do constantly is acknowledge his teams work and pay tribute to those who helped him get there ... win or lose.

I do think though that he should shut up. If he signs a new contract with HTC, it will be for a ****load more money .... and if they dont give him a contract then someone else certainly will. Its not like he hasnt proven himself.

Whinging because they havent renegotiated a year out when they have sponsorship issues to sort out first is a bit stupid. If he is really that pi$$ed, start negotiating with someone else - HTC will soon come grovelling back.

Really, watch some cycling before claiming nonsense like this.

"Team this, team that" is actually one of Cavendish's most nauseating repetitions. The kid wins so much that we have to listen to this same old broken record in every post-finish post-mortem. :)

I was tired of Cavendish for precisely this reason, but now I'm tired of all these broken record threads. You're just pursuing him as your username suggests.

Interesting post in that I have had the complete opposite reaction to Cav as of late. Early on I thought him the punter you describe but his smack talk has grown on me and is in some respects refreshing that it isnt the same old canned reply time and again as with most athletes

a little personality in the peolton again

I love the video shot from a motorbike running alongside the 3 leaders coming into the Champs Elysees with Phil Liggett commentating. All you can see is a Cervelo guy leading out (not sure who it was), Thor Hushovd and Petacchi. Hushovd starts sprinting and Liggett starts wondering whether Hushovd is going to "pull off a big surprise". Just as he wonders "where the Manx Missile is", Cav appears in the frame at the rear of the picture and overtakes everyone in a flash.

Classic finish.

:D that shot was hilarious! everyone knows cav is faster than the rest. but that moto shot really puts it in perspective.

No one as left me feeling more anxious and nervous over the final kilometres of major Tour stages... never been so pleased and elated to see a rider cross the line in first place...Love him

Personality in the peloton!!!! God forbid!

we can't have guys being good and actually realising that they are good. Next thing you know they will be telling people that they will win races and trying to psych other riders out. No, what we want is for them to be self effacing, humble, and not speak unless spoken to. That way they will be acceptable in the eyes of forum posters who always wanted to be bike racers of note but were somehow never good enough. The guys who were always coming in 10-15 minutes after the winner. Who had to stand and watch while others got the glory...

This really is what the majority of these hate threads boil down to.
It's the same thing in life, people who are happy with who they are and/or what they've achieved in life rarely feel the need to put others down.

There was the same negativity around when Cipo was at his peak. It easy for him because he had this great lead-out train etc etc. Cycling mates of mine said it was easy to sit in the bunch and then win the sprint, funny how if it's so easy so few actually do it. I watched the four stages Cipo won in succession, and he triumphed with his sprint-train and without it. He won at least one of the four when others were attempting to box him in. Cipo was a larger than life charactor, and Cavendish, while not in the same mould, is a charactor as well.

greipel vs cav in 2011, should make things a lot more dramatic

It'll make things a lot quieter - Greipel will have his as5 handed to him on a silver platter and will have to stop all the trash talk, which means less trash talk from Cav too.

“The nail that sticks out gets hammered down”

there are plenty of successful cyclists who do not provoke such negative reactions so It has little to do with jealousy or envy but rather the character of the person, a colourful personality will always polarise opinion.

The fact that Cavendish is a successful rider is not really up for debate, but with success comes media attention and that is where his public personality acquires him not just fans but detractors as well.

I think it will work out in a deal. Out of 10 races Cav. gets 6 Farrar 3 and Grieppel 1. Therefore Greipel will still get some winnings.

Get over it man. He had every right to feel ****ed. Sure he shouldn't have made the gesture but the media and public shouldn't have been so quick to dismiss him because he had a bad start to the season. Move on
