Hmm, tell me...given that he has already won more races than most guys do in a lifetime, that he already has numerous GT wins to his name, winning on all three GT's, given that he has already won the MSR Classic....How many more races does he need to win before he proves himself in your eyes???

Cav's a big boy, he should be able to withstand public opinion--especially when he spouts off. He has proven himself on the bike. That speaks for itself. So he doesn't need to ruin it by opening his mouth.

Good effort on defending Cav. Polarizing figures need as many supporters as detractors.

Oh he's proven himself to me all right. This guy wins when he's supposed to win and wins when he's not. When we give his leadout man all the credit he wins without one. The guy can sprint like nobody else and can flat out win a bike race. I love that about him.

He's still a knob much of the time, but whatever. There's room for knobs on the podium.

the guy is unbearable. I had great satisfaction seeing him dropped at the worlds.

Thats probably because you are are a sad man with no talent yourself, similar to many on here who thrive on tall poppy syndrome.

Not that Cav's tall but he is a winner unlike most on here who rather thrive on whining.

Personally I hope he keeps on winning for many years.

Sorry mate but sports people don't need to smile and look at the ground bashfully just to show guys like you you some false humility. Yeah he is arrogant, the arrogance of youth. No different from many many other top sports stars. He says what he thinks, so what? You may not like it but so what again!

The guy is a sprinter, a big part of being a good sprinter is in dominating the opposition, mentally as well as physically. Yeah he talks himself up and then he generally delivers. If he can beat the guys he is racing against mentally before the race even starts then they are all just racing for second place. This is no different to what Usain Bolt, Cancellara in the TT and Lance in the Tour did. Merckx was an expert at it, so was Antequiel.

As you say he's arrogant which is a trait most people don't like in others, doesn't matter who/what/where or why, arrogance is not something required to win, many do it without.

Plus he's 25 years old, he should be handling himself with a bit more maturity, if he wanted contract talks (which I can well understand) then he didn't have to go about it in such a petulant manner.

A pretty good `one trick pony' as one trick ponies go, equal twelth on Tour de France stage victories with Freddy Maertens.

he does his one trick really well, even I can see that, but he's not a great cyclist. He hasn't been around long enough.

Plus several million.

Why do people get off on constant negativity?

Me too.

He's good for a couple of meltdowns a years, which are highly entertaining. I especially liked the good cry he had after his first TdF stage this year.

I don't remember Cipo ever doing that...

He's quick tho, no doubt about it.

Maybe a good cry is his secret. He does have three more stage wins than Cipo and he's still a young man.

But Cipo had a photo of Pam Anderson on his Cinelli stem. That counts for something.

I will grant that 4 wins, Cav will pass him next year.

Edit: Only because it was pre HEP C, otherwise it would have been -2.

The Graf on the saddle is classic. So was the bunny hop over the finish...

Haters gonna hate. Just saying.

To the OP: You seem to not know what a 'bonus' is for. Even more have you ever gotten a bonus for your work? Mark Cavendish is without a doubt the fastest rider unimpeded out there. Why shouldn't he got bonuses?

HTC-Columbia is playing a dangerous and stupid game with this athlete. The fact of the matter is either you win with Mark Cavendish or you get beaten by him. HTC is lucky enough to win with him. There is no reason Mark should even have to mention bonus or contract renegotiation, HTC should be driving him to the table in a stretch limo.

The fact of the matter is I watched the tour last year and this year simply to see Mark Cavendish pull of another spectacular win. And with all the doing headlines swirling around cycling, I'll probably watch next year's TDF also, and it'll be for one reason. Mark Cavendish.

Look--i'm tired of Cav too, but not because he's any of what the OP said he is. I'm just tired of him because he tends to make sprints in the TdF (and many other races) kinda boring...

As for what you said, I think that anyone who is as succesful as Cav has the right to complain about not being given a contract extension...

Oh, I totally disagree with you. I watch the entire TDF from jump to final man crossing in Paris and the only thing that makes me stop doing what I'm doing is a good sprint; and lately that's because of "The Manx Missile" Mark Cavendish.

He's good, he's better than good. Look his lead out train ran amuck and still he wins. His launcher gets taken away, he still wins. Mark Cavendish makes the TDF exciting.
Okay, purist will recall the climbs and the points along the road, but for fans like me we'll remember who came across first, especially on a sprinter's day.

And something else... a few weeks ago there was a complaint by Cav about collusion between a few riders against him; but you know what, Mark isn't going to be beaten in a flat out race, so they have to do something underhanded or team up against him. There is this old saying: CHEATERS NEVER WIN, AND WINNERS NEVER CHEAT.

I just hope their actions don't cause Mark injury.

Who knew a knuckle dragger like Cav could write.

Your text looks prettier in pink.

Cavendish should have hired a better manager, one who would have pressed for some sort of tiered bonus system based on wins. Nobody held a gun to his head to sign the contract. If HTC folds next year, they've lost nothing by offering him nothing extra. If they find a new sponsor and can't take Cavendish on b/c of burnt bridges, meh...they'll still be running a big, probably successful outfit.

This whole "poor Cav" nonsense is ridiculous. Get some perspective, folks.

^^^ Are you asking or saying I am Mark Cavendish. By the way, I've never seen a knuckle dragger crying because he's overcome with gratitude. BTW, no dear, Mark is a male, and while you have only my word, I'm not. :(

@Willy_Voet Please, that color is searing my already seared eyes. I have a bundle of vision issues and picked a color that's not so harsh on my eyes.

I forced myself to read your post as though I was looking into the sun, and now my eyes are killing me. :(

From Blackadder to this slow, humorless fanboy. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

I think we may have found ACF's long lost British twin.
