I don't think Birdsong cared about the stage. He was glued to Thomas who is a bigger rival for the MTF stage.

Woods is the king of muritos not high pace climbs.

The murito became a bit too long and steep for MVDP.

I wonder if he can handle Mur De Huy? Poggio Murella is a step above but not by that much.

Same can be said for the Liege climbs. I'd put Redoute and Faucons in the same category as Mur De Huy. Not murito climbs just very tough hills.

Froome 18 minutes down.
It's just really hard to imagine him getting anywhere close to Vuelta winning form this year...or ever again. I respect his grit, but it's hard to imagine all the hard work and sacrifice is worth this sort of placing.

They could send Carapaz to the Vuelta as a co-leader. If anything goes wrong, he can take over. He was promised the Giro leader role after all.

How in the Hell is he going to contest the Vuelta if he’s finishing 10 minutes down on Michael Matthews and Julian Bernard. That ain’t cause he’s working for Thomas, who looks much better.

Would make sense to have a co leader. I don't want Froome to win another GT but I don't want him to go out like this. Right now he is even worse than he was when he signed for sky

tbh Thomas looked horrid and was finishing 10 mins down on Dylan Van Baarle at the Dauphine and he's looking much more like a contender within a month.

Froome does still have more than a month to go until La Vuelta. I think it's unlikely he contests but certainly don't think he's out of time

But in Froome, we don't see much progression at all. He was bad at the Dauphiné, and he is bad now, 3-4 weeks later. I wonder if Ineos know if the injury permanently put a limit on what he can still achieve. It would be a sad way to go out.

Maybe he was truly awful at the Dauphine and is only bad here? It could still be progress :p

Let's see if he can show anything during the rest of the race. Maybe a breakaway!

Problem is was riding fine in UAE early in the year, and now he's still ***. So it's not liek he's only just been back.

I'm positively surprised by G. He may win the Giro now. I didn't think that was a possibility before seeing him today.
