I've seen stranger things happen
Ganna absolutely smashed the Tirreno time trial last year, and the first guy he made up 1:15 to was still Louis Meintjes in 53rd. This looks close to impossible I'm afraid, even if van Aert gets a couple of bonus seconds today

Watch on Steephills, on the English Eurosport. The last 1.2 km of the race. Van Aert was clearly the strongest finisher. At that point, at 1.2 km of the finish, in the final ascent already, Van Aert was 49 seconds behind Pogacar. Even more before, I guess. And at the finishline, he ended at 39 seconds of Pogacar. If there was 5 km left, with a small climb, Van Aert would have won. Because also Pogacar looked cooked the last hunderd of meters, not gaining many seconds on Van der Poel.
And in general. What a pity Van Aert didn't have the team and the teammates he deserved. If he had support of at least one good climber (Kuss ?), on the slopes of Prati di Tivo, Van Aert hadn't to do all the work himself, chasing Bernal/Pogacar, then chasing Thomas, then chasing Pogacar on the slopes.

Pogacar rode Van Aert out of his wheel with about 18 to go. A bit silly to barge in and tell us all what's what when you only watched the final 1.2 kms of a stage with action from 65 kilometres out.

Much can, not everything.
Have you seen last TDF and yesterday's PN stage?
I mean, you don't win until you safely cross the line on the last stage.

I'm not jinxing and hoping for things but you have to consider the amount of drama that can happen even in a 10km meaningless TT ^^

The stage eight ITT will be a non-event - Minimal if any changes on GC while Ganna is 99% certain to win the ITT.

I am very curious on Pogacar's performance. I know it is flat and short but he impressed me yesterday by distancing Wout on such a course. He will not beat Ganna but I wouldn't be surprised if he can keep up with WvA. That alone is scary enough.

A bit too short loop in the first route (for some races at least), and in the second it's the only selective part. There are many hills that are not much easier, but in return better located. But before a Sault finish it works, granted.
How would you design this kind of stage?

Depends whether he goes all out or is ultra cautious on the corners and just sets out to do enough to ensure the GC.

If he goes all out then he could go very close to WVA on the form he has shown in the race.

Majka is really doing everything he can to lose his domestique's role at UAE again. Peloton losing ground now. Looking good for the breakaway to win
