Time gaps are bigger than in many gt queen stages....

why i have posted many times that GTs and particular the TDF must put in stages with lots of up and down like this, lombardy and stuff in the Massif Central. it gets rid of strong teams, leaves the best fighting it out and produces bigger time gaps and much carnage.

Does France even have terrain like this anywhere lol

I came home just a dozen of km before the finish and couldn't believe my eyes. Big stars of cycling going solo, wow. How did it happen? Looks like Pogi decided to practise his TT skills a bit, what a monster! He almost caught MVP, who was dying at the end but somehow managed to win (good for him, the loss would be devastating under these circumstances)

Pog doesn't look happy at the finish, he probably needed one more km to catch him up.

400-500 more meters of uphill would be enough.

Van der Poel died at the finish. Let's hope he'll rise like a Fenix.

Nibali made his way into the top 10. He just needs every stage to be longer than 200 K.

I thought it is done when I tuned in 30 km to go. I couldnt be more wrong. Spectacular finale. I didnt know if I want to cheer for Pogacar or MVDP. These three guys are like pros in amateur race. So dominant. Even Ala seems way below their level.

And in addition we have Evenepoel lurking in the background. And not to forget Pidcock who is also a great talent. These guys can really give us many epic moments in cycling the next decade!

You can do something comparable in for example the area to the west of Nice (basically the area from Fayence to Vence), but France obviously doesn't have anywhere near the depth in terms of walls.
Realistically you only need the one true murito. Montee de la Bastille would be awesome

When you see today's efforts, it's kind of a shame MVDP didn't try to hang on longer yesterday. Curious how long he would've been able to.

Brutal race, kudos to anyone involved.
Are you kidding? The only reason why MvdP was able to win today, was because he chose to loose 20+minutes yesterday. Alright? Otherwise he would have been hanging on for his life today. Do you realise what some efforts or lack lack there of cost? His motor has that limit, Ferrari on the short run, not deisel on the long run. Pogacar, by contrast, is simply a freak.

i dont think mvdp had a hunger knock btw. Then he would have lost.

I simply think he was dead from soloing 50km on such a course. I said already that's insane to try. He just barely held on

The time difference between Simon Yates and Nairo Quintana was 3 minutes and they were 21st and 22nd. That was some damage.

But in Italy you have the embarassment of choice.

Everyone else came over the line looking like they never wanted to get on a bike again

Pogacar just looked mildly irritated he'd got his timing wrong

He was smiling for sure.

There had to have been an easier way for MvDP to win that stage.

I know he's a man's man, but not wearing at least arm warmers and a vest with your nose in a cold wet wind for 50 kms is just dumb. I'd wear shoe covers and light long fingered gloves and knee warmers, too. Once you lose body heat in those conditions it doesn't come back.
