Like a pro, he knew that they saw him have the puncture before 3 km to go, so he deliberately dropped his chain. Champ.
Are you sure he had a puncture? The only reason I ask is that when they came off the last hill, and rode onto the major road, he was at the back, but he took that turn as fast as the guys in front of him. and they were hauling a$$. Maybe he said later he had a puncture? If not, I think he actually had a drivetrain malfunction.

Not absolutely sure, but it looked like a slow puncture where he had some sealant.

He definitely suddenly began to ride very slowly on the descent. It was an odd show by him all the final 15 kms. He also positioned himself at the very back of the bunch going in to the last climb. Quite odd, even with the headwind.

Ganna didn't punture, but his chain dropped with 3 km to go, prior to that I think he just wanted a position on the descent further back. In any case, in the post-race interview he doesn't seem to know how to be simpatico, like De Nero on Letterman.

Yeah, he doesn't always come off great in his interviews. I half assumed it was because of his bad English, but is it the same in Italian?

Everyone knows Van der Poel cleans it up, and Van der Poel didn't have a teammate.

Besides, everyone could also see the motor in front of the break which is why they couldn't bridge the gap

Astana had four riders in the group of 37. They may not have the fastest sprinter but they could have launched attacks with their riders and may have got lucky which would bring back the break.

He just comes across as aloof and sour, with zero generosity (at times outright rude terseness) in his responses, as if he's annoyed at being asked the question.
there's an interview on Youtube where he mainly sounds disappointed about losing the chance to win, and also apologizes for his rude words earlier on. I guess it was taken a bit later on.

Great win for Dversnes, 7th of the season for Uno-X, they are on fire.

Van der Poel should have been more active but he showed good legs for MSR just as Ganna.

Ayuso to take the stage and GC lead tomorrow.

Yea in the previous interview, annoyed by a very normal question, he responded with contempt "non lo so" ("I don't know"). An awkward silence followed. It was an unpleasant vibe.

Not sure he’s able to drop Pogacar and MVDP. So he needs to beat them in the sprint, but he’s slower.
Like others have said, if he's gonna be beat it'll probably be in the descent.
Ganna against Pogacar and Mathieu in a sprint? Yes, Mathieu should be faster. Pogacar? I don't really think so. If he wants to, Ganna can actually deliver a very decent sprint.

It'd be a great shame if the weather were like in 2016 and they had to cancel the stage. Or at least the last climb. Would be most unfortunate. Maybe though the riders deserve a rest day after a tough week? As much as it would displease the organisers and all of Italy, I think they should cancel today's stage. Yeah, the riders should protest the finish and stage results cancelled.
