It's a shame that Pellizotti screwed things up and Nibali couldn't be here as planned - I think he could have added a lot to the mix.
This is a huge race for Radio Shack - they blew off the Giro so they could have their Dream Team minus Kloden together for this race. Quick Step already passed them in the UCI team rankings, Garmin can with another stage win, Sky is close and some other teams are getting closer. If The Shack doesn't shine here, it's a pretty epic fail for the month.
I think a big part of Levi's past victories were a combination of local knowledge and his willingness to be close to a hundred percent of form in February while Europeans were just starting to stretch their legs. So figure he'll be at the same level of fitness, or a bit higher, than his normal February, while other guys will show up three months fitter than before. Think back to Cancellara's back to back classics wins, and compare that to his normal mid-February fitness.
I hope it will be an entertaining race, with lots of guys getting involved. I don't see Radio Shack dominating. And I'm kind of curious who made the decision not to invite Astana.
I'm rooting for Mick & Jens!, and hoping for a show from Sagan, Spartacus and Chichi. It would also be good to see Andy look strong in the mountains with just seven weeks until the Tour.
