He says he rode too aggresively and could've ended up higher (probably with Uran/Yates), but the thing was he had to make up time so he chose to attack.

That's good, he could have ended higher, but he chose all or nothing.
Completely agree with that statement, he could definitely finish with Urán and Yates if he didn't burn matches; especially the first attack was taxing as everybody else 'rested' in the main field at that point. I understand why he did it, but it would have made more sense to go all out the last 3 kilometres, playing it a little conservative, and then strike for gold today.

Ok, by the skin of his teeth today. So the explosive bit might be a problem.

edit: appearently not feeling well

Tom Dumoulin said after the stage: “The team saved my day, at the beginning of the race I wasn’t feeling so good but the team kept me motivated and continued to fight to keep me in a good position. I was in the first group in the finale but I didn’t have the legs to sprint for the stage victory.”

Team Sunweb coach Aike Visbeek was happy with how the team raced today. He said: “I am proud of the team, it was a difficult day for Tom and the guys did a really great job supporting him. We are very much in the race for a good GC result for Tom and over the next few days we will remain focused on that.”

First group on this stage on a bad day. THat's good. Frequency of bad days isn't so nice

Really poor ITT. Not at all like Dennis who seemed to not only improve climbing but also ITT.

He also flamed himself for his poor ITT...

I wonder if he made any technical mistakes or if he just didn't have enough power. The latter would be very worrying obviously.

Training on the Teide, starting the resemble an actual climber now. He will only race LBL before the Giro.

Seems like he has some decent support for mountains in Keldermann, and to a lesser extent Haga and Ten Dam

He looks really thin. I'm really, really curious to see how he does in the time trials.

Tirreno might have just been one bad one. These should suit him more.. but does he still have it?

I really think dumoulin will be the only threat to nairo. Guys, this man is very similar to froome, for the first time he focused on a gt, making trains at altitude, he dropped some weight. A cyborg will born tomorrow, mark my words!!!

No, to that I'm pretty sure what his level is due to the outings he had earlier this year.

Do you think that represents the climbing level he'll have in the Giro? I sort of expect him to be at a higher level due to it being his absolute main goal this year.

Dumoulin said he is at the same weight as when he almost won the Vuelta.

Says he can't really lose more, as his body doesn't want to co-operate, also says it doesn't matter because now he feels strong and healthy. Says the main difference lies in the amount of training he did uphill.

He will be in pink tomorrow. Losing less than 30 seconds on the best climber in the world on a climb like this. He can do some major damage in this Giro.

Tomorrow is a rest day.

Now I'm hoping that that TA TT was just a crap day, as this is by far the best climbing he's ever done. Genuinely super impressive.

He didn't train on his TT bike before Tirreno ITT. Now he did. He said he underestimated the effect of not doing specific TT training.
Before the Giro he did, so should be ok. Even if he loses some of that top-end stuff he obviously still has the power. He weights the same as in the Vuelta 2015 but climbed much better, so that can only be if he pulled more watts...

Dumoulin was absolutely livid after the finish that he lost Kelderman. Could be a crucial factor in the 3rd week. Ten Dam can hardly do it alone.
