His Bahamontes - esque climbing ability is now in full display.
Just needs to recapture that junior worlds tt form he’s gonna be damn near unbeatable

Best technical descender, sure, not necessarily the best descender. Those big guys go down fast. MvdP is the best handler, IMO.

Best technical descender, sure, not necessarily the best descender. Those big guys go down fast. MvdP is the best handler, IMO.

Pidcock is definitely a better bike handler than MvdP. Obviously it's a different bike, but Pidcock stands his ground on technical sections against full-time MTB pros, and Van der Poel normally struggles (before making most of it back up on the climbs with his ridiculous engine). Like last week at Les Gets, he had to put his foot down several times.

This version of Vingegaard isn't invincible like the one 2 years ago. He's had bad days in the Tour and was likely to have some in the Vuelta as well.

It's true but also he went 7 w/kg for 20 minutes on Sunday, so his peaks are still very very high.

Cant wait to watch him on a hot 30-35 degrees days in the Alps deep in the second week at 5,5k vertical to Granon or something similar with Visma or UAE smashing it throughout the day. His AdH time would have put him at around 10th from the GC group, which would be pretty in line with his better GC stages. The highest desnivel stage this Vuelta was actually the one to Col de Pal in Andorra, where Pidcock was in the main GC group

I think Pidcock's worry should be much more recovery overall rather than not being able to handle harder mountain stages. And in previous GTs in which he did collapse toward the end, he did not look this good in the earlier stages either.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Vingegaard had his team at the front all day, he was fully confident and aiming to win the stage. Nothing suggested he didn't feel good. In addition, he did just ride away from the chasing group.

Hopefully he keeps doing it until Madrid.

Today was a great show by him albeit on one short climb. He has much more to prove before we get too excited. But based upon today I think their is cause for optimism.

Plus, after the manner of his departure from Ineos I think it’s great to see Pidcock doing well for his new smaller team. But again, until he finishes this Vuelta with Angliru awaiting this is a work in progress.

Don't be ridiculous, he was born to an English mother, and lived all his life that he can remember in England. By your rules, most of the peloton wouldn't have a nationality. Awful shout.

I am really surprised today. The short explosive climbs did suit him but dropping the second best stage racer in the world in a Grand Tour is something special.

Hopefully Pidcock can keep this level in the longer mountains to make this Vuelta a three horse battle.

Looked to me like Vingo was stretching Pidders out a couple of times on the downhill corners. Pidcock is the best descender in the World on You-Tube. Not saying he's not really fast but I don't think he can count on gaining any time downhill on MVDP or Pogacar or Vingegaard if they are head to head in a race.
