In Zurich, Kint was stopped by spectators who hold his saddle and in the meantime Knecht went away. Kint had to be World Champion again. :)
That he was stopped by spectators, is Kint's version. Fact is, that Kint, who played with Knecht and forced him the lead, couldn't react in time on a sudden attack of Knecht . Stopping Spectators ?? True is, that one spectator crossed the street at about this moment.

Although almost 6 years old at the moment of these World Championships in Zürich, I wasn't personaly there :).

Have to admit I never checked this version, actually.

USA

1. Lemond - Based on results, Armstrong may be more deserving. But Lemond is the one who made cycling interesting for me.
2. Armstrong - I don't think the 7 tour wins will be coming off the book.
3. Hampstein - Giro win looms large.
4. Hamilton - His issues overshadow his results... but he's got some good finishes and big wins. 2nd in Giro, won Liege, won Romandie twice, won DL, 4th at Tour and a olympic gold medal.
5. Leipheimer - 2nd and 3rd at Vuelta, 6th at Giro, 3rd/6th/8th/9th at Tour, won DL, olympic bronze medal.
6. Hincapie - Good placings in the northern classics and assorted stage wins and lesser classic races. To be honest... him being this high shows a lot about where US cycling has been historically.
7. Julich - 3rd in the Tour... but not a lot of results after that one outlier. Won P-N and an Olympic bronze.
8. Farrar - Too early? Won cyclassics twice, Scheldeprijs, 1 stage in Vuelta, 2 in Giro and a lot of 2nd places.
9. Davis Phinney - Won a couple of Tour stages and has an olympic bronze. After that it's mostly US races.
10. Vandevelde - 5th/8th in Tour. Not much aside from that.

the US list is almost depressing.

I appreciate that you're joking around, but there's quite a few good riders you have, in addition to Szmyd, Marycz and Sapa there's Marek Rutkiewicz, Przemysław Niemiec, Bartosz Huzarski, Michał Kwiatkowski for starters...

nice list but if you are going to exclude he who shall not be named then Grewal doesn't belong since his claim to fame is the Olympic Gold that he won when allegedly blood doped. just sayin'

I'd put Indurain above Contador for sure.

Is Jalabert Spanish by the way? lol

I think Kelly is much better than Roche. They say he has the 4th best palmares of all time. All those classics surely beat Roce 1987, however good a season that was.

And surely atm Dan Martin is higher than niko?

No room for Uwe Ampler even in the honorable mentions? Or does his '99 positive, years after his heyday, count against him?

if we wanted to add another honorabble mention I believe the man's name was Joseph or Jozef Fischer or Fisher who won the first Paris Roubaix.
