Both Wiggins and Cooke are cyclists, irrespective of gender, and after evaluating their palmares from their respective specialist disciplines there's a very strong argument for both to rank very highly on a top 10 list.

The only way Ak-zaaf's argument can be held up against including Cooke in the British list is to point out that pay and prize money is so abysmal for women cyclists that it's hard to discuss them in a "professional road racing" forum. However it could be argued that working as hard as many of the top women do despite the lack of financial incentives and security only makes their achievements that much more impressive.

Totally agree...the Netherlands has had more than a fair share of great track riders!!

When those guys first came over to the states they did a few east coast races with my team as guest ringers. One of my younger and more impressionable teammates approached Alan and asked what our team plan for the race was and he replied in an irish accent that barely translated to american " ride like fook and try to hang on".

I perfer more consistent performances, not massive big results. This is why Kloden is just in my top 10, even though he does have 2 2nd place TDF finishes, just doesn't have much substance outside. This also why I put Zabel above Ullrich, but it was a tough decision. 7 podiums in the TDF, Olympic Medal, and a Vuelta win is impressive, but as many of us agree, just seem like he just never came up with hte performances we expected when we first saw him in 1996 rise to prominence. Zabel raced year-round, won just about everything a sprinter could, and competed at the highest level for almost 15 years.

Thaler was very good in cyclo cross, on the road he was'nt top 10 I think

Did I say he tested positive? Raced around him before he "turned pro". He couldn't finish in the same time zone as most of the other names on that list. His progress afterwards was somewhat dramatic, according to many of his teammates.
