He ended 7th. That's nowhere near second.
Nobody knows if he wouldn't have bonked anyway, with or without that crash.
Froom prooved he can podium, Gesink hasn't.
However, i think Froom will likely pull a Velits at next years' Tour.
Gesink is pretty much irrelevant at this point of time.

Tony Martin can be 3rd in the Tour 2012 with his 09 climbing legs...but Gesink would have never been 2nd in the Vuelta 2009 when he was clearly the 2nd strongest man in the race???

You're so full of bull**** it's unbelievable.

Yeah. He's also one of the tallest riders in the peloton. so he's still not a lightweight.

Ok, but his ratio his still pretty fetherweight.
He's tall, but that aslo means he has a bigger wind resistance then others. especially with his horrible position on the bike. And with his broom stick like legs, he simply doesn't ahve the mass and power to be solid TT.

And don't bring up the Tour of Oman know:rolleyes::D

I don't say he woudln't have been. But we just don't know. It's a big if. While Froom has actually done it.
Actually done > could have been => Froom>Gesink
Esopecially given the fact that Gesink had a horrid year and nobody knows how he will recover.

Quite an achievement I'd say... above Froome in both rankings obviously. But that's no suprise.. since Gesink is CLEARLY a better rider

Based on what?
Maybe he was, but in 2011 Froom clearly outshined him.

Hm. Interesting. He puts out the most Watts of any Rabo rider ever, but those results must be mistaken, because Bavarianrider has decided he has no power due to those skinny legs

He's quite unaero, I'll give you that.

Froome has barely ridden this year hence the low ranking, he came in fresh at the Vuelta and bingo.

Already put the guy on ignore mode again. There is no reasoning with a wall of ignorance

Watts are great, but in the two "flat" ITTs, watts wasted in the wind because you can't refine a better TT position will only lose you lots of time. Time and not watts win the thing. For this Tour those ITT's will be very decisive.

Into the wind tunnel boys! Ride the TT bike a lot.

Im a bit shocked reading this thread. All of you hate Schlecks? :) Having 09','10 form Andy will be on the podium inevitably. Moreover, considering the specificity of this parcours, the riders will have to attack more often, probably even on penultimate climbs. No one will expect ITT besides Sky and Evans.

But I read about Froome, who rode the only super TT in his life...

Rabo supposedly put plenty of work in over last winter on TT positioning Gesink especially(as i predicted in early season ;) ) He certainly improved and if you look at the "numbers" from the Tour and the Vuelta with none of this 6.7-6.4 wkg theres no reason an in form Gesink wouldnt be physically capable of being on the podium at least.Hes certainly shown the talent too compete at that level of performance.(messing up menchov styley or having a bad day thats another matter)

Wiggins/Evans/Menchov will take at minimum 5 mins from 3 ITT's out of the Schlecks Contador at least 3-4 mins. No way in hell frandy takes back more than 3 mins total on the "diesels" and diddly squat on Contador.Thought before course was leaked Andy wouldnt podium this parcors certainly dosent change my mind.

just some guy said:
4 best ITT Evans has come the closest to beating Tony in ITT in the last 6 months

just at the Tour... and also Wiggins was really close to Tony in the Dauphine

They would take so much only out of Schleck in case TT's were one day races. :) The gaps wont be so huge, especially as for the last one. Menchov was super TTer in the past. Why we have to believe in him looking how he perform this year? Andy is not Frank. To my mind Alpe-d'Huez was the second worst day after Hautacam for Andy throughout all his career in the TdF. He was completely exhausted after the Alps. Generally hes able to do the last TT a lot better.

I think Gesink's position on the TT bike is even worst than A. Schleck (who actually has improve some).

Two photos comparing Contador and Schleck.

Look at where AC has his chin in comparison to his chest area. Very low compared to A. Schleck. Less daylight between the stomach and the thigh.
AC's helmet also shows no daylight or hair and is fits well along the shoulders. Upper arm is also not vertical. AC's shoulders very forward ...can't see his neck. Both are well forward on the saddle, but look at how much forward more AC's saddle is on the post!
