Gilbert beaten by Pauwels in a sprint, how sweet it is !!!!! :p:p:p

Great stage by the way. As always in our Tour. But not as good as 2009.

Pauwels has, to date, been mostly a sprinter on the road, so it's nice to see him branching out a bit and showing that ability on hills, since he has such good acceleration on the small mounds they use in 'cross.

He's had a lot of good results in sprints and uphill sprints in particular but he's also often showed he can handle the hills, too. See Belgian nats 2010.

During the live coverage of Overijse 2007 which he won after several attacks on the Tenotsberg (asphalt climb which still was in the course - every lap - in them good ole days), Mick Wuyts said it was no surprise because KP mixed up with good Spanish climbers at the Volta a Lleida.

But if he was referring to the stage Lleida-Alcarras, was it that mountainous?

A bunch of 26 in the same time but there might've been some decent climbs earlier on the course ???

One of his wins that I like is the 3rd stage of the Kreiz Breizh Elite 2011. He was already in break with 70k to go (the group attacked on the Mur de Bretagne). But with a dozen k to go he countered Freddy Bichot and with the 7 of them, they resisted the return of the peloton. :)

Uh, why? I mean, he isn't as good as 2011 but let's not do a Bryneel here.

If you want another ego to work with, than that ego has to get results. If he gets better by the Tour comes around then fine, but he can't do anything there with this form.

Correct if I am wrong, but esentially you are saying that Gilbert needs to first get results for himself and only then would he be motivated to help?

There is always that risk. If Gilbert can't really do something good there it is probably better to take a dedicated domestique for Cadel extra.

gilbert for sure didn't train enough this winter. lack of trainingbase and he doesn't have the sheer class of a duarte to outshine that despite lack of form.

btw, what happened today as I didn;t see it. betancourt won a sprint? talk about consistancy. betancourt is crazy

Why are you guys spelling his name as if he was from Ohio?
It's Betancur.

Especially you Ryo, I would never expect such a puerile mistake.

you could've said "contador" or canc or boonen or freire or valv... but no. you had to say something stupid.

When he was 2nd at the U23 Worlds, and won the Baby Giro, and even last year's Emilia win, it was always officially spelt Betancourt. That seems to have changed now but it's no wonder that people still use either spelling.

It's been discussed before. Both "Betancur" and "Betancourt" are used in Colombia, with "Betancur" being the preferred one.

Just watched the recording of this, hearing Westra say he didn't attack because he didn't want to lose his second place was sad. Didn't think he was that kind of rider. :(

In a way it's better this way. If Betancur had done the Giro only to be just another fish in the shoal it would have broken my heart. :(

Tbh you thought Rujano would win Giro so I wouldn't be sure about that statement :p

He would have definitely got a stage win imo.
