Evans should use the same preparation next year as he obviously arrived at the race a lot fresher. 2012 might be his last year but if he continues to get results, who knows ?

I remember before the race he wasn't too happy with his form. I guess he's used to coming into it near his peak b/c he usually rides hard all year. He seemed to get it right this year, though.

But does he have that motivation when he has finally won it? He really showed his determination on the last two Alpine stages. Would he have pulled the favourites up the Galibier if he already had one in the bag?

I'd recommend NOT checking the home pages of any newspapers or agencies right now. Very sobering stuff.

Just enjoy the race here.

Very true, there are a couple of riders who would be in shock at what has happened in there country. One mans actions can bring joy but one mans action can also bring total devastation to thousands. Thoughts go out to all of them.

If you come across any particularly good video interviews in the next 24 hours (Ozzie media, not the usual stuff cycling sites), please post links if possible.

I can only imagine the homecoming he's going to receive. Any idea when he'll return to the homeland?

in the off season after the WC. Back to Barwon Heads for some sun.

I knew it from the start of the year...simply amazing!

You did have a few wavering moments there. ;)

He and Phil can now have fun next year in the classics together if Phil joins BMC.

Cadel, simply an aussie legend.

yeah, where has thi Porte guy been all the Tour. He did not help Contador one bit. Maybe he was sabotagging Alberto in favor of anyone else, specially Evans?

Maybe he was resented because initially he was going to be the lead for the TDF and then comes Alberto and makes him a domestique instead ?

I think sometimes success can come too quickly, it can raise expectations too quickly and make someone seem to be something that they might not be.

I think that was a mix of anger and frustration but I don't think motivation is a problem for him and during the post race interview he sounded hungry for more wins. Because he is a GC rider even though he can win classics I have a feeling he won't ride for more than two more seasons. He may have another attempt at the Giro now before he retires. But for Evans it's always been about the Tour. Tactically he could not have done better. Every time he was in trouble he pulled himself out of it and also had the smarts to go with Contador and Sanchez on the stage into Gap. I thought he would finish off the race stronger than Andy. When Andy could not drop him yesterday it looked good for Cadel. I thought the TT course was a good one for Evans.

****, I've been fooling around online all morning with the race and all of you. Now I'm going to get stuck riding in wind and 100 degrees F. Thanks a lot, Le Tour.

Cheers, Evans! :D

Sorry but Saxo led by Porte would have been a disaster, probably finishing lower than Radio Shack. He himself is quoted in interviews as learning a lot from Alberto on how to race the Tour.

I am not sure why everyone keeps pointing out the lack of a team for AC, besides Leopard Trek and perhaps Europecar who in the top GC standings had another teammate with them in the mountains? As soon as the race got hard, all of the teams exploded and the GC riders where left alone.

Great time trial by Cadel. Great Win. Leopard Trek have got to be looking about wondering what if we handled the first mountain stages better...

And once and for all.. Andy cannot time trial! Last year was a fluke for him.

It's the same here...without the wind.

No sympathy from me! :p

Even as an Ozy I feel slightly sad for Andy because I simply can't see how he will every win a TdF until he learns to descend and TT competitively. There will always be another guy like Evan's who can limit his losses in the mountains and dominate in the TT.

As for Evans - Congratulations! I hope there a more big wins in front of him - love to see him ride the Vuelta later on this year.

I'm going to post in the Versus thread as well, but it deserves a special place here too. Here's the previously mentioned exchange between P&P in the closing minutes of the iTT:
Sherwen:
It’s a long march now for these two riders, the Schleck brothers, who’ve been the animators of the Tour, but don’t worry, Phil, they will be back and they will come back to try and win this race at some time in the future.

Liggett:
To make champions, you have to have great losers and these two are the best on this occasion. It could’ve gone either way for Frank and Andy Schleck, and they carried a lot of the support of the world ‘cause Andy is such a personable character as is brother Frank.

:D
