I would just like to thank Cadel for salvaging the last shred of what has been a really dismal tour. Andy on the top step really would have been the last straw.

This past week has just been pathetic. Truly a feast for any fans of the clinic. To say another word will get an infraction. This sport is so in need of help.

I'm going to post in the Versus thread as well, but it deserves a special place here too. Here's the previously mentioned exchange between P&P in the closing minutes of the iTT:

:D

A couple of you beat me to the posting of the one about being great losers make you be a great champion. I had to rewind the DVR on that one to see if I heard it right.

Being a great loser does not make you a Champion, it makes you a great loser. There is a difference in being a graceful loser and a great loser.

Personally, I think this is probably the cleanest race we've had in a very long time. I loved the past week, full of great racing. In fact the Alps were what I love so much about this sport, cycling excitement at its finest for me.

The versus coverage exemplifies what it means to be great losers. Or perhaps 'epic failures'....

3.10am here in Melbourne... Not sleeping much!
Massive day for sport, and particularly cycling, in this country. What a race-best TdF in years. The stars finally aligned for Evans, it was worth the wait.

I can't say anything in this forum other than I disagree.

Well said. Cadel is the deserving winner, but I do feel bad for Andy. I like the guy, but he won't win a Tour until he can TT better.

I bet money that ASO designs next year's course for Andy: No prologue, no ITTs, and 4 or 5 mountaintop finishes.

And mandate all other GC contenders race the Giro to win! That just might make it the scenario that Andy needs to win.

Even with all the repetitions, it is really difficult to fully express how frustrating the pre-written narrative from Versus has been. This is such sweet justice and now I can laugh even harder at Roll, Sherwen and Liggett.

This will go down as an epic Tour among Tours. So fitting that someone who has been knocking on the door of Grand Tour victory for so long finally pulls it off.

Cadel Evans: 2011 Tour de France champion.

I love it. Phil bad-mouthed AC until the very end. So great that Phil's "People's Champion" didn't win.

and no decents!

I went back and looked at the Tours during Lance's reign. There were 2 ITTs most years, with a combined distance of about 60 miles or more. If ASO did that for a few years now, Andy would lose 5 minutes just in ITTs.

Props for the 60k attack, but I probably would have puked if Andy won. Under control for Cuddles start to finish.
