WAY too mountainous to be true. Plus, all the epic stuff late in the Tour is just going to mean 2011 all over again with boring first two weeks.

Prudhomme said that the route next year will fit a rider like Quintana, that makes alot of mountains and one of them being col de joux plane likely imo.

The stage into St. Lary would be very nice. Col d'Azet from that side is 7.5km at 8.3%...it would be followed by a technical descent into the finish at the village. And all this after climbing a nice trio of climbs.

Stage 19 looks tasty too. From what I can see Cret de Chatillon is not too far from Annecy, and it looks like a nice climb the way they would be climbing it.

That would e a very very mountainous route. The ITT would need to be pan flat and 60km to balance it.

What puzzles you about it?

The idea of a stage finish in Annecy. I thought Le Semnoz would be more likely, but ok, that rumored route has enough MTFs.

Assuming a finish in Annecy, what puzzles me are the possible variants of connecting Granier, Revard and Cret de Chatillon.

Less flat between climbs, but "easier" ascents or more flat between climbs and harder climbs.

I don't think the south side Cret de Chatillon is that difficult , but it's closer to Annecy. I think the west side is good enough, but it's further away from Mont Revard and further from the finish.

If it's a transitional mountain stage, then it's ok. But I dunno.

I immediately thought about this route: http://goo.gl/maps/YzYT
Where you have this ascent of Mont Revard: http://www.climbbybike.com/fr/profil.asp?Climbprofile=Mont-Revard&MountainID=6986
And this of Cret Chatillon:

With the finish in Annecy immediately after the descent.

I think it would be a decent stage...it would have been one of the best stages this year...Top 3 for sure.

It would be fine with me in a Tour with finishes at Joux-Plane, Plateau de Beille and Alpe d'Huez...not to mind 3 other mountainous stages.

But as was pointed out, this is dream land.

Better than PdB I guess. Best possible would be from the West straight off Pradel. About 11.5km @ 7.7% (with the last 5km close to 10%). Would never happen like that though, have to have the "full" climb

It's possible if they want it, which they don't. That would mean a Kronplatz type of deal, with more restrictions because it's the Tour and not the Giro, but it's definitely possible.

Why would it be better than PdB?

The Pailheres is more irregular in terms of gradients and the road surface is worse. It's a harder climb, IMO.

I've done that exact ride. Awesome. Not the hardest mountain stage in the world, but enough to make a difference. The descent is great.

It's (just) outside the core area of the national park, so that wouldn't be a problem. The Tourmalet is inside the national park as well...

If the route is what capablanca has said, it is going to be simply crazy

I doubt that will happen though
