Not a great fan of Millars but i feel from him...He really wanted to ride his last Tour & he was I believe making a film of it

Can't see how the selection is all that stronger without him

Cycling can be a cruel business

what a great twist to the film.

Does this mean Millar will retire mid season ? 2014 was going to be his last year anyhows, and judging by the above comment I don't think he'll have any motivation to ride any races.

He didn't show much this season but I feel bad for him regarding how this exclusion went, he's got to be feeling like **** right now.

Couple of tough weeks for him, feel pretty sorry for the guy.

Maybe if you weren't such a sarcastic **** you might feel for a rider who is really upset to be dropped on the eve of the Tour ...whatever the merits of his riding

We are talking about human being with feelings ....

We're talking about a grown man who, according to himself, didn't train as a hard as he used to, and preferred being a dad to being a pro cyclist.

Even if you disregard his lack of form and health, it's clear that the motivation to give it his all wasn't there anymore. Let's face it, he's no Jens Voigt.

Granted, Garmin shouldn't have told him and Dennis that they were in the Tour team ...if that's really what happened.

Most balanced team I've seen. Scarponi, Birdsong, Kangert should be enough for the mountains. Max will be good for the hilly stages and the cobbles. Grivko will be useful for the cobbles too, and along with Vanotti and Gruzdev they'll have enough horsepower for the flats.

Now official ...no English riders in the Tour starting in England !!

And Millar not selected yet so maybe no Scots

Just a Welshman, a Manx & a Kenyan Brit so far

Strange with all the talent in England

Sucks for fans in england though I'm sure they'll still get behind Cav and even Froome.

ASO can't be happy with the likes of millar/wiggins/dowsett and so many other british riders being left out. Bizzare really.

Froome has ridden for England before in the Commonwealth Games although quite how much time he has spent in England rather than South Africa, Kenya or Monaco i don't know.

Somewhat related to the Millar/Garmin story, Vaughters has changed his mind, or in this case lied to cyclists before. Last year before the Vuelta Vaughters had told Alex Rasmussen that he would get a new contract and that he should not worry about results. Then Alex spent the race helping Farrar and after the race was told he would not get a contract after all.

Wow, Millar went full Streisand on this. Bad news for him, but the current team selection makes a lot more sense. I can only assume the dramatics are the result of him (understandably) being at the bottom of a scotch bottle. Garmin's line up, while not spectacular, does seem pretty solid now. This could potentially be one of the better TDF's in recent years.

Garmin:

Andrew Talansky
Ben King
Alex Howes
Janier Acevedo
Jack Bauer
Sebastian Langeveld
Ramunas Navardauskas
Tom Slagter
Johan Vansummeren

Thought Dennis was going...
Well, Dennis said while ago that he was going to finish his first GT this year, but it was to be decided after Tour de Suisse whether it was going to be Tour or Vuelta and that he actually wouldn't mind to skip the TdF for racing in Spain. So it's not a surprise he isn't there.

Well. In theory, it seems to be weaker squad climbing-wise than in the previous few years. Certainly no more multiple cards to play. Talansky and Acevedo seem to be good, but Slagter seems to have peaked for March and April and didn't show much since then. Howes and King are okayish, but not sure if TdF level just yet. At least some decent support for cobbles, but as TdF2010 showed, it doesn't have to count for much.

If i was OGE i'd go Matthews, Gerrans, Clarke, Albasini, Howard/ Keukeleire, Hayman, Impey, Lancaster/ Docker and then Mouris.

That squad could get them 2 stage wins, if not more and would be competitive throughout 3 weeks.

I would have Goss if i thought he could beat Sagan in a harder stage but i don't think he can. The Vuelta should also go well for him, though he might be over raced by then.

Escarabajo said:
If Greenedge wants one stage they should take Chaves.:)
Gerro will get a stage. there is not better stage hunter in the peloton.

But i will second Escarabajo with Chaves.

And Svein Tuft must be more than a chance for doubling up. I dont know what deal he has made with Matty White, he may have told him, next yeat if you want a swansong at the Tour, we wanna blood some young bucks.

But no Goss this year, this will be the hard decision already made, Matt Keenan hinted at it already,

so Matthews, Gerrans, Clarke, Albasini, Hayman, Impey, Chaves, Durbridge, Tuft.

Meyer and Keukeleire on the bubble. If Tuft is not it, Cam Meyer is in.

Goss will have to find his sweetspot in the peloton. Cobbled classics? He has not shown the strength as yet, thos his first few years he showed potential, but not the potential of Boasson Hagen, even with his MSR win. His speed, his terminal velocity, now longer matches the best, and he no longer shows the fight for the bunch kicks. Can he be a stage hunter like OGrady or like Heinrich Haussler for the flattish rolling stages? He certainly demonstrated his ability to be a breakaway rider in the espoirs, and never waited for a sprint. But i dont know if he can do it in the pros

Christophe Laurent?

Slipstream Chipotle?

but, this is stretching the definition of "lie". Everyone knows the poker that goes on for Tour spots. In December, when the long list is handed out, there are 25 on the list, and a dozen of those promised a spot. One month out, it will still be a dozen promised a spot, and not merely a "bubble". Rasmussen was not the first, Laurent was not the first neither, and nor will Millar be the last, and i would suggest JV is actually not playing a game of mirrors with his charges. And i have been a pretty hard critic on JV, so take that for what you will

So Westra is nothing to you? He just won a mountain stage in the Dauphine

Wow, that's funny/sad. No JV1973 posts since the news?

He's just learning how to answer his new phone. I hope he hasn't missed any important calls.

Spoke to a very upset @millarmind "This has killed my relationship with the team. I'm so sad."

Jesus, are you kidding me? What is this, the end of his world? Stop whining, accept it, and move on with your life. You don't show the result or form, you don't get a spot on the Tour team. That's just the way it is, the way it's always been. Tons of others will not get a spot on their teams Tour team, do you see any of them whining about it? No, they pick themselves up and move on with their lives.

I could have cared less about whether he made the team or not before this. Now I'm glad he won't be there. :D
