Don't understand all this doubt about Froome's descending.
Yes, he isn't the most technical or best at handling cyclist in the world, but he is pretty descent.
Glad to see my pick for the stage TDG up there

Maybe it's because he was whining about attacking on descents à la Andy back in 2013.

If it rains, Froome might have a problem downhill. But it doesn't rain, Sky controls the race, the break will win and everybody goes to sleep. Rest day.

Bit of a let down that nobody is chasing now. I hoped some GC contender would try to get a stage win.

Sagan to be 2nd behind Trentin again :p

MTN looking strong in the break with EBH, Pauwels and Teklehaimanot.

By the way, considering Sagan doesn't have any teammates and considering he's the clear favourite and not everybody might be motivated to ride to the line with him I can see an attack on Manse or a late attack after Manse sticking btw. A late attack by Jungels, Hansen, EBH or something like that could work. Voeckler and De Gendt haven't looked to good so far, but they're difficult to deal with on a good day. It won't be half as easy as some people in this thread were suggesting I think, but Sagan is clearly the favourite.

Was he whining about descent itself or because other rider almost took him out on descent?

Anyone know much about Pantano?
Good climber and all rounder. A little built to be a pure climber. He has developed some sprinting qualities that we have been shocked. He was 3rd in the Tour de l'Avenir that was won by Quintana and Talansky was second.

Yeah I don't think Froome has poor descending skills at all, but I do think he doesn't like to take risks at descents, contrary to Contador, who doesn't have extraordinary descending skills at all I think, but who doesn't mind going full into a descent at all when necessary, If Bertie can't drop Froome in the descent at least he try to make Froomey feel uncomfortable for the first time this TDF. :p

Also, Quintana's descending skills are a mystery to me. I used to think he was a good descender because he did a great descent of the Col de Joux Plane in that Dauphine stage he won, but after that he hasn't really shown anything more than normal on descents I'm afraid......

Nibali is the only one who can really make a difference on a descent I think, of the current GC riders. Maybe Contador can do something by being fearless/reckless........

Will Contador try something today as he did in 2011 with the help of Samu?

I hope so.

It was a similar situation, he won Giro that year and he needed to take time. He did a good attack and he put one minute to Andy, especially in the descent. That day Andy said that Riis knew how he " works out", so he ask Contador to attack. Maybe now Contador doesnt works out the same way, but I think he will try, and I hope Nibali try with him.... I think that they have little option to succed, but If I were SKy I would mind 20 second with those guys, they dont need riks...

Rain was a big factor though, also the really fast start of that stage, non stop action.

Anyway why is astana riding? Nibali wants this stage?

It was a good day for Nibali and Urán, so Astana and Etixx worked, but too difficult, so they quit...
