sad for TJ. but every experienced cycling fan saw this coming - he was too early (mid june) too fit. now hes empty, immunesystem down = overly fatigued.

I get that Kwiatkowski is the world champ, but I don't think we need to see him dangling off the back multiple times on every climb...

Not even sure why Kwia is still in this race other than to be first man in Cavendish's leadout on Sunday. Unless he's some sort of traditionalist for whom the rainbow finishing the race is more important than seeing the rainbow being dropped as soon as there's a >3% gradient.

The Movistar hate is hilarious. Contador is a threat to 2nd and 3rd. He is pretty much no threat to 1st, thus Movistar have the incentive to chase.

They spent the entire rest day talking about how they were going to attack sky at every chance and how they still think that Quintana has a chance to win.
Instead they do the work for Sky when the pressure goes on to protect their 2nd position, helping ensure that they have no chance of winning.

Even when they say the would give up those positions to win

They may have said this, but the real trade off is much more complicated.

Would they give up 2nd and 3rd for 1st guaranteed? Yes
Would thye give up 2nd and 3rd for a 0.001% increase in the chance to get 1st? Of course not, would be lunancy.

Somewhere in between is where the really tough choices need to be made.

Froome beat tj in June, and he's not abandoning the race, so that's not an explanation.

Froome has nothing to lose, he has a gap of 4 min to contador. Movistars gap is between 1 and 2 minutes so they have the podium to lose, which is important as well.

they don't have to give up squat. Put Valverde on contadors wheel and let sky chase.

Cavendish needs all 7 men for Sunday if he wants to beat greipel, he also needs renshaw to go around that last corner like its 2009
