If you celebrated Zubeldia's ninja TdF top 10s you can't criticise Meintjes for chasing one. A TdF top 10 is a big deal to riders, teams, and sponsors, so teams will try to hang on to one if they can.
But as far as I remember Zubeldia at least didn't use his teammates to chase other riders who are a danger for his 9th place. The protecting of top 10 places is what annoys me (although I actually find it kinda understandable) not that he doesn't attack.

Guys maybe Meintjes is just preparing an epic attack on the Telegraphe. Atapuma will drop and help Meintjes reach the front group and Meintjes will drop everyone on the Galibier and win an epic stage and the white jersey. It's totally gonna happen. :p

This is so pathetic. Do you have any idea how ridiculous it is to defend a damn 8th(!) place. Not 2nd. Not 3rd. 8th. As if anyone will remember who finished 8th. I don't even recall who finished 4th last year.
Maybe it's about the WT points to keep their license?

Wow Contador's time up the Croix de fer.

What was it?
https://twitter.com/faustocoppi60/status/887656215857291264

OFFICIAL: Alberto Contador sets new climbing record on Glandon-Croix de Fer. 57 min 50 sec. 25 km/h! Faster than Festina 1997. #TDF

Wow...
If Contador is still capable of stuff like this, its mystifying how all he has to show for the last 7 TDF's is 1 combativity award.

Also shows what a beast Kiri is.

He is only NOW just getting help.

From UAE

I think it was Yates, but I only remember that because he was only seconds behind Quintana but didn't even try to get on the podium.

On the positive side I don't think UAE riding impacts on the excitement of the stage. If anything it will mean the break has to ride faster up the climb and the GC boys could even get involved in the stage win.

It was Yates. I had to look it up.

Or just trying to crack Yates and take the white jersey?

Sky seem to have found allies in UAE ... good for them .... but still a long way to go ....
I hope Alberto gets through though and Thomas De Gendt getting the polka dot jersey (perhaps not today, but maybe tomorrow)

"UAE are working for Team Sky. Has there been a more negative team in this year's Tour de France? They have a rider up the road. They'll argue that they're protecting Meinjtes overall position but this has been their tactic throughout the mountains. Why are they not allowing Team Sky to do all the work?"

Love you, Susan!

Kiry must be annoyed that UAE is slowing him down.

Adam Yates did.
So just because you don't want them to defend it they should just give up? If you don't like it then petition the UCI to change the points system then maybe riders and teams will change the way they look at the lower parts of the top 10. Even Trek came out the other day and said they'd like Contador to finish inside the top 10 for the points it would bring.

UAE is getting a huge budget next year and, according to Gazzetta, have signed Aru. Points don't mean anything to them.

Problem is when his team is doing Sky's work for them.

yup , it like Sir Dave made a call and offered some cash so he could get his guys a little rest

Gap has gone up since UAE are chasing.

Motorbikes, number one issue ruining races for me right now. Just watch the GCN video they did recently on how much watts you save. At the moment the break is drafting one and the peloton has none.
