And Kittel would have beaten Sagan comfortable. But neither finished the race, and Matthews did as much to animate it as almost anyone else, so it's a fully deserved win in my book.

Yes it is well deserved obviously. He was great this Tour but his bunch sprints were rather poor. This was a lifetime opportunity for him to grab green.

And no he would not beat him comfirtable. Even with that relegation it would be close

Nobody is saying is he can't be a first tier sprinter in the future, he probably will be, his potential is huge, but he just hasn't proven enough to be classed as one right now.

The discussion was whether he was first tier *now*.
He isn't, not by any objective measure - such as winning multiple bunch sprints in GTs and big races with quality opposition.

I'll agree with this. He is only 24 and his train isn't even sufficient enough. Planning was 2018 but he already has his first one.

Very few people deny he WILL be a top tier sprinter.
But to say he has been a top tier sprinter "for a while now," is an asinine contention.

When in top form, Cav, Kittel, Bouhanni, Greipel, Sagan, Demare and Viviani are all arguably better. In fact I'd even add Gav and Ewan to that list

I firmly disagree. I only believe Cav, Kittel and Demare are faster in pure speed. Gaviria and Ewan are similar. Bouhanni and Greipel are definitely slower. Viviani I'm a bit more unsure off.

You do know he beat all of them in other races right?

Bouhanni and Greipel were late starters to the final sprint today, so not slower...just tactically out of it. Greipel at his best could correct such mistakes but no longer.
