I don't know, what this Orgiere climb is (probably just a random goat track) and why would you want to completely misuse it by randomly putting it in the middle of an AdH stage. Leave it as a descent Modane or punchy Valfrejus finish. Nice find BTW.
To be fair there are so many climbs like that where you just climb up mountain and descend another road on the same side of the mountain without actually crossing into another valley.

They also claim that there will be a stage from Bagnères-de-Luchon to Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d'Adet and in reference to the département number it will be... 65 kilometres long

Some rumors brought up the idea, that this is a half stage...

25 juillet matin: CLM Luchon - Superbagnères
25 juillet après-midi: Luchon - Saint Lary Soulan (Peyragudes, Val Louron Azet, Pla d'Adet)

I would like to see how they would that.

Usually when we have double sectors (even in short stage races) it's normally an easy stage followed by a short time trial. Not an MTT followed by a short hard stage.

There is also rule 2.6.010 which explicitly forbids half stages in WT events

Why though. I think it's a decent way of making sure you don't have to sacrifice an entire day to the short, exciting mountain stage. Though there would be a tremendous difference in recovery time, but among the top of the GC it shouldn't matter that much.

I do think a Superbagnere MTT is too big for half a stage though.

Interestingly, i know of at least one race (a small Polish one called Bałtyk-Karkonosze Tour), which likes to end with a morning Okraj MTT followed by a hard, 80-100km Karpacz-Orlinek HTF.

I said usually, I don't know all the races and all the profiles.

I was thinking of races like Critérium International or Driedaagse De Panne, for example.

You didn't get the memo? Alpe stage must be 130km or less and the Alpe is the only part of the stage which matters.

Like this? ;)

The first descent of Alpe d'Huez will be something to watch with 1 million people gathered here to see the race on the second ascent. :D

This 65km stage is also being mentioned by Sud Ouest and is being mentioned more and more on Velowire... unless it's a split stage I hope that this thought is just a nightmare... :( :(

Very short mountain stages are a great way to mix things up. I hope it's true.

Something interesting popped up yesterday. Somebody discovered Montée des Glières, the cobbles, the airport of Mende and Aiguille du Grand Fond in the Tour Teaser Trailer for 2018. All those sites are likely in the TdF 2018.

He also discovered pictures of Lac de Cap-de-Long in this teaser. So this is the next big rumor we have. From Bagnères-du-Luchon via Peyresourde and Col d'Azet it's exactly 65 kilometers to Cap-de-Long.

Ah, so Pla d'Adet is out. Interesting. Better scenery, weaker MTF (although longer and above 2000m)

Mix things up? All three mountain stages in the Alpes could be no more than 150km long. I agree that they can work, but what's the point when the majority of mountain stages are made for juniors?

In before the Giro is the most important Grand Tour of the year and the Tour is the most important Little Tour of the year. What the *** people, i thought this was an endurance sport.

When Indurain won Tour de l'Avenir there were 15 stages and 1.800 kilometers. :D

I looked for short stages under 100k in the mountains that weren't half stages or time trials...

1996 9: le Monêtier-les-Bains - Sestriere (ITA) 46.0 k (wasn't planed that way, shortenend due to snow)
1989 18: le Bourg-d'Oisans - Côte 2000 91.5 k
1972 15: Aix-les-Bains - le Mont-Revard 28.0 k
1971 15: Bagnères-de-Luchon - Superbagnères 19.6 k

If only the Alpe d'Huez stage was (just) under 150kms, as that would mean both Madeleine and Glandon would be included (plus no detours around La Chambre and/or Bourg St. M). Definitely not made for juniors, if so.

But somehow I doubt that's going to be the case.
