IIRC Last year he took an illegal bottle and didn't get a penalty when other riders did.

Somebody submitted a video a video of Bardet taking the bottle and rather than penalise him the judges dropped the penalties of the other riders

It was the Landa group, who got into the cars. Plus no sprint train in the peloton, unlike Martin chasing back on yesterday.

It was because the GC riders agreed to slow up after each section. Urán is the biggest loser of the day. Sky also losing two riders in big crashes. Let’s see if their injuries heal.

Quickstep was a huge disappointment again. They had Gilbert and Gaviria how was better options than Lampaert

Pretty disappointed Nibs didn’t make even a token attack. Valverde, Dumoulin, even Froome managed to at least put in a dig or more. Impressive riding by Quintana, Dan Martin, and Bardet!

Really? I’d assumed he’d won one sometime. Nice to see him take a big win for the first time in a while.

He was in Kittel's train for a few years with Giant-Shimano, and he's always been a not-quite-the-same-top-speed type of sprinter. He has a bunch of Vuelta (and I think Giro) stage wins against not-weak-just-not-quite-TdF level sprint fields.

What more could they have done? Sky tried to create splits - then Froome crashed. Dumoulin tried a few times, but never got any real gap. Fuglsang tried as well. Valverde made one half hearted effort - but maybe was more to disrupt the rhythm peloton a bit and help Landa. And almost everyone else - Quintana, Martin, Bardet etc.. were always just looking to hang on.

Only Nibali slightly disappointed perhaps - and that's only based on his ride a few years ago. And, frankly, he's not the same rider now as he was in 2014.

More disappointing, imo, was the lack of action from cobbled specialists like Sagan and Quickstep. They were they ones who could and should have torn the race apart 50km+ out.
